Publisher's Summary

From New York Times best-selling author Penelope Ward, comes a new stand-alone novel.

The one that got away. Every girl has one, right?

Mine was a charming, British aristocrat who turned my world upside down one summer. From the moment I first spotted Leo in the distance through my binoculars, I’d been captivated. I certainly never expected to find a man showering outside of the property across the bay in his birthday suit.

Then I noticed his housemate staring back at me with binoculars of his own - watching me watching Leo. That made for an interesting conversation starter when I inevitably ran into them. Turned out, the handsome Brits were only renting that house for the summer in my seaside town.

Leo and I formed an instant connection, even though we were technically opposites by all appearances. I taught him how to dig for clams, and he taught me that not all wealthy and powerful guys are pretentious.

Despite knowing he was totally wrong for me, I couldn’t seem to stay away.

It was a wild and crazy few months. And before I knew it, we’d fallen in love. We both had one wish: more time together.

But Leo had obligations back home. He lived a life I’d never fit into. And I was going to law school. So, we decided to end it and never look back. A part of me always felt like I’d let my soulmate walk away.

I believed our story was over.

Until five years later when he sent me a letter that shook me to my core. I’d thought my world was turned upside down that first summer?

Well, I knew nothing yet.

So sweet and heart-wrenchingly beautiful 😍

This book was so good, I cried a lot because it was very touching and beautiful! Jacob Morgan and Andi Arndt are amazing narrators and together they were able to make you feel this story and the characters in their depth. They were both fascinatingly awesome at doing both the English and American accents of every character in the books both male and female!! This book is definitely worth your credit! Enjoy! 🥰

Simply amazing

Incredibly romantic. Guaranteed to make you swoon over Leo. At times heartbreaking but also not your cookie cutter love story.

Lots of feelings

I totally loved this book. Though there were a few times I really did not and I contemplated not finishing it because of the powerfully raw emotions it brought out. My heart physically ached many times. I am glad I took a chance on it. I will definitely ‘read’ this book again.

Great story!

I really enjoyed this book, almost more than the story about his cousin. Good narration. Definitely memorable.

Didn't like the narrator at all.

Some books are ruined by narrators voices. I finished the book but wouldn't buy another from this author. The narrations was boring and not a lot of inflection.

Entertaining

3.5 stars
Leo and Felicity are such interesting, endearing, relatable characters (at heart). There meet cute is one that family stories are told of for generations. Their romance was sweet and fit the characters very well. I also enjoyed the secondary characters, particularly Sig. He provided so much comic relief when he was one page. Hopefully we’ll get to read his romance. I really enjoyed the first 70% or so of the book – the couple’s interactions; their internal struggles. The what happened is what I wish had been done differently and what lowered my rating and enjoyment of the story.

The narrators are easy to understand and follow.
