Story
Aleksandr I. Solzhenitsyn’s startling book led, almost 30 years later, to Glasnost, Perestroika, and the "Fall of the Wall". One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich brilliantly portrays a single day, any day, in the life of a single Russian soldier who was captured by the Germans in 1945 and who managed to escape a few days later. Along with millions of others, this soldier was charged with some sort of political crime, and since it was easier to confess than deny it and die, Ivan Denisovich "confessed" to "high treason" and received a sentence of 10 years in a Siberian labor camp.

Publisher's Summary
Rediscover one of literature’s most beloved classics, richly reissued in a pivotal new audio recording. Emmy and Tony Award-nominated actor Pablo Schreiber (The Wire, Orange Is the New Black) delivers a stirring performance of Jack London’s fierce yet tender tale of loyalty between man and beast, told from the point of view of a dog.
The Call of the Wild remains one of London’s best-loved novels, often regarded as the crowning masterpiece of a writer whose enduring popularity and prolific output hold a unique place in American literature.
On its face, the novel is the story of Buck, a dog stolen from his comfortable home on a California ranch and shipped to the frozen Yukon to be a trained as a sled dog. But this exhilarating tale of a canine hero’s fight for survival is in fact a vivid depiction of the great gold rush to the Klondike in 1897. Brutal and fierce on one hand, this iconic adventure story is also a heart-warming tale of the tenderness and loyalty between humans and animals, brilliantly told from the latter’s perspective.
Narrator Schreiber, whose previous performance of Brett Easton Ellis’ American Psycho has endeared him to listeners, brings a classic American tale to the ears - and hearts - of a new generation.
What the critics say
"Narrator Pablo Schreiber's pacing, tone, and timbre are spot-on as he delivers this often brutal story.... Schreiber narrates with exquisite restraint.... The narration is ably done and the adventure well served." (AudioFile)
Behind the Scenes with Pablo Schreiber
"[The Call of the Wild is] a great slice of American history but deeper than that it's also a wonderful metaphor about listening and following our instincts."Escape the Daily Grind With Our Favourite Action & Adventure Titles

Wonderful!
It’s not often that a book has me clutching at my heart and covering my eyes as I listen to it. For Jack London to generate sympathy and emotion in a book from the viewpoint of a dog is incredible. As a dog lover, it was really hard to listen to at times, and yet I could not pull myself away. A feast for the senses, and gloriously written, I thoroughly enjoyed this book.

Initially brutal but ultimately triumphant
I read this story, first, when nine. Listening to Pablo Schreiber’s excellent recitation had me harkening to my days of reading well into the night: curled into a ball to ward-off the chill, under the covers, flashlight in hand. This story is brilliantly written, in its often brutality, and wonderfully read. Enjoy!

Incredible Story
Jack's London's The Call of the Wild had been sitting in my library for a bit. I wanted to start it, but the short length was throwing me off a bit. Nevertheless, recently the call was strong, and like Buck I was called to the mysterious unknown. The book is a heart-wrenching story that follows Buck from his relatively stable life to a life of hardship, and finally a life he deserves. A true classic, highly recommended for anyone.

Canadian Masterpiece - Delivered in Modern Medium
Any book by Jack London is worth a revisit and in a modern Audible Medium, it comes alive again. The performance is wonderful and as a Candian who has served in that very area, it is a treat to go back in my mind's eye and see it again. The bond between man and animal is sacred in the North and London has captured the mystic of that phenomenon. Well done! Great Listen!!

A book everyone should read
My late husband read this book in Italian and in English when he moved to the US. Although he loved wolves before, this made him fall madly in love with huskies. Reading this again, for me has touched me in a way it couldn’t when I read it in school. Jack London reveals Buck in an existential way that makes you feel like you are running with the wolves yourself. Pablo Schreiber’s reading draws the reader into the heart of the tale.
