Wonderful

I have to steer my fellow Audibilians toward "The Cloister Walk". Let me make this short and sweet, just like the book. Here's three reasons why I loved it -- and why you might too:

1. Kathleen Norris had some very practical things to say to me as a human being, with all of the positive/negative, physical/spiritual, temporal/eternal things that being human can mean.

2. I found her style of gently revealing an idea to be simply elegant. The thoughts were substantial without being overly dense or heavy - in other words, I gained understanding without gaining a headache.

3. For me, Debra Winger's voice is to sound what Monet is to sight - pleasing, skillful, wonderfully textured, and rendering each word perfectly.

Overall, a real joy to listen to. Try this one.

Enjoyable, but what did I miss?

i enjoyed it, but halfway through i tried to follow along with the hardcopy book that I had previously purchased and discovered that the Audible version skips over chunks of the book. I guess I should have known that you couldn't fit 382 pages into 2.5 hours. Shouldn't the Audible book be advertised as "abridged, " or something like that?

Skips whole paragraphs and chapters...what?

Someone needs to check this. Debra Winger skips whole paragraphs and whole chapters of this wonderful book. I own a hard copy and read it back in 1999. When this reading was listed as two hours and change I thought - can't be! I grabbed my hardcopy and the best I can guess is this is an abridged version. This needs to be re done. Or, better yet, read the book. The sound quality is horrible too. Very unprofessional. My star rating is only this audio version. The book is a five star. What a shame!

Poor Reading

I was surprised at the poor quality of the reading. I have read the book and liked it. But, for some reason, even though I love Debra Winger this reading was off. It was hurried and flat. It needs to be re-done.

Couldn't get through it

I am very sorry to say that I just couldn't get through this! The author appeals to me and so does the narrator - I really had great expectations. But, the reading was so dry and dull! She just sounded like she was on the verge of a yawn the entire time!

Really disappointed. I think I'll have to skip the audio and try to read it for myself.

Save your credits for something else!

A wonderful journey into the spiritual life

Loved this, well read, abundantly laced with great spiritual lessons learned from those who lived it and continue to live faith

Marvelous

A spiritual classic made more interesting by the author's humanity and humility. Beautifully written with uncommon depth and sensitivity. A must read.

Like listening in a tunnel

I wanted to like this, but the audio quality was terrible. Like listening to someone in a tunnel. Couldn't get very far through it :(

Very relaxing

Would you listen to The Cloister Walk again? Why?

Several years after listening to this book, I still get a feeling of relaxation when I think about the book. I'm going to listen to again soon.
