Publisher's Summary

A detective and an FBI agent join forces on what seems like an open-and-shut case — but a new rash of killings sends them on a pulse-pounding race against time in this intense thriller.

Michael and Megan Fitzgerald are siblings who share a terrifying past. Both adopted, and now grown — Michael is a long-haul truck driver, Megan a college student majoring in psychology — they trust each other before anyone else. They've had to. Their parents are public intellectuals, an Ivy League clinical psychologist and a renowned psychiatrist, and they brought up their adopted children in a rarefied, experimental environment. It sheltered them from the world's harsh realities, but it also forced secrets upon them, secrets they keep at all costs.

In Los Angeles, Detective Garrett Dobbs and FBI Agent Jessica Gimble have joined forces to work a murder that seems like a dead cinch. Their chief suspect is quickly identified and apprehended — but then there's another killing just like the one they've been investigating. And another. And not just in Los Angeles — the spree spreads across the country. The Fitzgerald family comes to the investigators' attention, but Dobbs and Gimble are at a loss — if one of the four is involved, which Fitzgerald might it be?

From coastal California to upstate New York, Dobbs and Gimble race against time and across state lines to stop an ingenious and deeply deranged killer — one whose dark and twisted appetites put them outside the range of logic or experience.

Couldn’t Finish It

I was so excited to listen to this book but so disappointed with the narration I couldn’t past chapter 35. The main character Michael ‘s voice reminded me of William Shatner. The starts and stops, the hesitation between words drove me nuts. The other characters were fine but listening to the voice of Michael was like nails on a chalkboard. I’m sure the story’s good just going to have read this one myself. For such an incredible story teller I’m always surprised at how terrible the narration is in some of James Patterson’s nook I use to cringe when I’d hear a man trying to talk like a woman or woman talking like a man but this one overall was just bad all around..

Performers - Poor

I could not finish listening to the book. The story appears to be intriguing, however the narrator made it tough to listen to. I wish I could return the book, what a waste of time and resources. I may read the book but not sure as I have the narrators voice in my head and it has tarnished me from downloading any of the books narrated by the same folks.

disappointed

very disappointing.. the voice for jessica was an old mans voice for some reason .. it was very distracting and then it became annoying.. and i’m all about suspension of disbelief.. but ... it’s was ridiculous.. everything was just so stupid .. why would he climb in the ceiling of a washroom ... why wouldn’t the other porsche driver stop when only paid a pittance ..
so many unanswered and just absurd scenarios taxed me too much.. i couldn’t even finish it and i prob won’t buy another
