Publisher's Summary

What if everything we think we know about how the world works - our ideas of love, education, spirituality, work, happiness, and love - are based on brules (bullsh*t rules) that get passed from generation to generation and are long past their expiration date?

This book teaches you to think like some of the greatest nonconformist minds of our era, to question, challenge, hack, and create new rules for your life so you can define success on your own terms.

The Code of the Extraordinary Mind is a blueprint of laws to break us free from the shackles of ordinary life. It makes a case that everything we know about the world is mostly decided not by rational choice but instead by conditioning and habit. And thus most people live their lives based on limiting rules and outdated beliefs about pretty much everything - love, work, money, parenting, sex, health, and more - that they inherit and pass on from generation to generation.

But what if you could remove these outdated ideas and start anew? What would your life look like if you could forget the rules of the past and redefine what happiness, purpose, and success mean for you?

Not Just a Book but a Movement

Blending computational thinking, integral theory, modern spirituality, evolutionary biology, and humor, personal growth entrepreneur Vishen Lakhiani provides a revolutionary 10-point framework for understanding and enhancing the human self. He developed this framework based on his personal experiences, the five million people he's reached through Mindvalley, and 200 hours of interviews and questions posed to incredible minds, including Elon Musk, Richard Branson, Peter Diamandis, Ken Wilber, Dean Kamen, Arianna Huffington, Michael Beckwith, and other legendary leaders.

The 10 Laws of an Extraordinary Life

In a unique fusion of cutting-edge ideas, personal stories, irreverence, and his brilliant teaching style, Lakhiani reveals the 10 powerful laws that form a step-by-step process that you can apply to life to shed years of struggle and elevate yourself to exceptional new heights. This book challenges conventional ideas of relationships, goal setting, mindfulness, happiness, and meaning. Lakhiani combines computational thinking with personal growth to provide a powerful framework for recoding yourself and replacing old, limiting models that hold you back with new, empowering beliefs and behaviors that set you on the path toward an extraordinary life - a life of more happiness and achievement than you might have dared to dream possible.

Buyer beware

After listening to this book I was ready to take on the world. Then I went to the website and I downloaded the app believing the author when he said that he would be providing extra free content to my surprise there was nothing there that was free everything led me to joining his extraordinary group for a couple hundred dollars.

Now I wouldn’t mind if the author was upfront with me but I was led to believe that he was providing me with a lot of extra content and I was really disappointed when I found out that it wasn’t true.
Although I really enjoyed the book I thought the performance was exceptional and overall found the book inspiring. The book lost all credibility once I went to the website and realize that I couldn’t get access to any of the content he promised in the audiobook. However If I missed something I would really like to know because overall the content in this book makes a lot of sense but to me this book is a big commercial for the authors website

Maybe too much for audio

I love the content but feel the need to buy the actual book to back it all up, refer to and follow along. Have come accross some if the ideas in many other books so I found this to be a really good bundling of many philosophies.

A Different Spin on an Old Subject

Although the information provided is nothing entirely new to me, the way it was presented was clear and concise. He has a pleasant and clear way of speaking and he uses clear, simple language to express his ideas. I really enjoy listening to him. He has a perspective that I can relate to. I would certainly recommend giving this a listen if you are on a journey of self change and exploration.

A Very Powerful Book

I purchased this book in October 2017 from #Audible1 and listened to it, I even bought the book but I was not ready for it then. Now in September 2018 all of a sudden this whole book became clear & understandable at a deep level. I was ready for the message the author wanted to deliver. Now I will listen to this and follow in my book since I have a lot of ideas to implement in my life! CW

extraordinary Mental shifts

I loved this book in the free flowing style it had to how informative and riveting it was. it got quite repetitive in some parts, and alot of it is content/ideas I already knew but Vishen does a great job of reconstructing the deeper reason behind those concepts which created way more space mentally for me to shift and move into alignment. I loved it, I love that it has an online engaging component to it and I love how freeing it has been for me to clearly see what limiting beliefs or Brules I was constrained by. I hope you find it as liberating as I did! :)

Anything but Ordinary

Brace yourself for a workable concise approach to personal growth. The author covers common barriers to personal growth with true insight and impact. The methods are updated from a perspective of "the shoulders of giants". He has personally developed a workable largely logical system for intentional personal growth.
If you listen to/read this book you are well on the way to a kinder view of life and it's opportunities.
On the downside he coined a phrase that is meant to suggest personal strength. It is in my opinion similar to comedians using vulgarities for laughs. Unflappable connotes the message and was already in my Thesaurus.
There is a very clear and evident seduction to visit the website of his company for additional information. There you will be offered enrollment to costly seminars. The points made in the book should suffice for all but the most "uncertain travelers".

Just a 10 hour advertisement for the $1000 program

What disappointed you about The Code of the Extraordinary Mind?

It's not truly a program or any sort of "help" book but is, instead, just an advertisement for the paid resources on the authors website. It's like a rap song. He spends the book saying how great and rich he is to gain some credibility to refer you to the paid programs on his website.

What could Vishen Lakhiani have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

Offered some of the program, even a shortened version so I could learn something or try his ideas.

What did you like about the performance? What did you dislike?

It goes quickly, his voice is fine.

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from The Code of the Extraordinary Mind?

Most of the anecdotal stories that seem to just be excuses to drop some names to impress the listener. Very little point in the constant stories of all the famous people he's met.

Any additional comments?

This is the most disappointing purchase I've made on Audible. I feel like I just spent the last 3 days in an Amway presentation.

So glad I took a chance on this!!

I bought this just by chance, since the title looked interesting. I had absolutely no knowledge of the author or any of his previous work.

WOW!!! I was absolutely blown away. This is one of the single greatest self improvement books I've ever read. It's one of the few books in general that I was actually SAD when it ended!!

Anything negative I could say about this book would be trite and trivial. Trust me, if you're looking to hack your life, this is a GREAT place to start!

Self indulgent

If you want to read a book that is more about the author than what he is teaching this is the one. If the word "I" were eliminated it would probably be 1/3 in length. Personal anecdotes are great to illustrate points but this felt more like a memoir than book on how to improve the mind. Many will love this book but I could not even finish. Prefer more useable content less stories.

Don't Bother Wasting Your Time

A bulk of the book was filled with anecdotes in which he portrays himself as a failure or a computing nerd so that he could establish credibility in his "methods". I found the information provided to be coercive, repetitive, and uninformative. Definitely just a run-of-the-mill self-help book that tries to masquerade itself as something else.

Disappointing

I held on as long as I could, but I couldn't finish this book. It was just too annoying. The author believes most religious rules & being told by your parents who to marry are bullsh!t rules you do not need to follow. Thank you Captain Obvious, but these are not groundbreaking thoughts.

crazy good

high five to Vishen for the book version of his great wisdom, inspiring stories and deep practices. I'm not entirely new to the material as I've followed his courses for a few years, but I really appreciated the visual workbook and the powerful exercises too. I didn't yet dive into the many bonuses, as I finished the book already in three days...
