Histoire
“No one believed I was destined for greatness.” So begins Isabella’s story, in this evocative, vividly imagined novel about one of history’s most famous and controversial queens - the warrior who united a fractured country, the champion of the faith whose reign gave rise to the Inquisition, and the visionary who sent Columbus to discover a new world. Acclaimed author C. W. Gortner envisages the turbulent early years of a woman whose mythic rise to power would go on to transform a monarchy, a nation, and the world.

Histoire
Glamorous and predatory, the Borgias fascinated and terrorized 15th-century Renaissance Italy, and Lucrezia Borgia, beloved daughter of the pope, was at the center of the dynasty's ambitions. Slandered as a heartless seductress who lured men to their doom, was she in fact the villainess of legend, or was she trapped in a familial web, forced to choose between loyalty and survival?

Histoire
New York Times best-selling author Margaret George captures history's most enthralling queen-as she confronts rivals to her throne and to her heart. One of today's premier historical novelists, George dazzles here as she tackles her most difficult subject yet: the legendary Elizabeth Tudor, queen of enigma - the Virgin Queen who had many suitors; the victor of the Armada who hated war; the gorgeously attired, jewel-bedecked woman who pinched pennies.

Description
Catherine de Medici was one of history’s most powerful and influential women. To some, she was the ruthless queen who led France into an era of savage violence. To others, she was the passionate savior of the French monarchy. In this brilliantly imagined novel, acclaimed author C. W. Gortner brings Catherine to life in her own voice, allowing us to enter the intimate world of a woman whose determination to protect her family’s throne and realm plunged her into a lethal struggle for power.
From the fairy-tale chateaux of the Loire Valley to the battlefields of the wars of religion to the mob-filled streets of Paris, The Confessions of Catherine de Medici is the extraordinary untold journey of one of the most maligned and misunderstood women ever to be queen.Ce que les critiques en disent

Good Story
This was a great piece of historical fiction. While there are a lot of liberties taken with this story it was written very well and very detailed.
The narrative was great!

Great introduction to Catherine de Medici
C. W. Gortner does an excellent job of balancing the known facts of history, typically dry, with the more dramatized elements which have surfaced in various stories about this long-ago era, without straying into complete fancy the way so many historical novels and period dramas seem to these days. Much of what Gortner includes in this book has a fairly substantial historical basis, giving the reader a good sense of what life was like in this time period. I find Gortner's writing to be "Ken Follett-lite," following only one character in the first person, which makes it easier for the reader to pick up again after stepping away. Gortner's writing is meticulously researched. I spent 16 hours listening to the book and 4 hours researching the various details included, finding most things included to have some historical basis, with the notable exception of the author's suggestion that Catherine and Coligny had a sexual triste. Cassandra Campbell does a fantastic job reading the work aloud, a pleasure to listen to from start to finish.
