Publisher's Summary

Colorado, summer of 1880. Aurora McMullen, an orphan, has been left without family by her rich aunt's death. When the government seizes the small fortune given to her in the will, she takes a chance on her future and responds to a mail-order bride ad. Accustomed to a comfortable life in the city, she sets out to marry a man who defies her expectations and shows her the greatest riches come from the heart.

Elbridge Claywood, the doctor of Coal Valley, has been wanting to find a proper wife to share his home. A letter from his friend in Nashville helps him choose a volunteer nurse desperate to leave a bad situation. Always a gentleman, he marries this beautiful woman who brings warmth and hope into his lonely existence.

Together, they will discover they are destined for one another despite a good dose of homesickness and the rugged conditions of life in the west.

A beautiful story

This performance was a wonderful experience. The narration was well done. The story was well written. I cannot wait for the next in this series.

Sweet and Cute

This was my first Rose Andrews's book. This novella is sweet and cute. Barbara Goldie did a good job with the narration. I was given a free review copy of the audiobook — at my request — and have voluntarily left this review.

Sweet read

Cute mail-order bride story. Easy to read. I’d like for the story to be more emotional...but the narrator did a great job! Enjoyed it!

I can feel every emotions

Not once did I listen to this and definitely enjoyed it. I love the simple plot of the book and while I'm listening to this I can feel every emotions the characters feels. The narrator (Barbara) also did a spectacular job narrating this and I can't wait for more.

A Charming Romance Novel

Admittedly, romance novels are not typically my thing. However, I am a firm believer that you shouldn't criticize before you actually experience something, so when I was offered a review copy of The Doctor's Mail Order Bride, I agreed to listen and review.

I've just finished it, and I'm incredibly impressed by how drawn into the story I was.

For the time period, it seemed fairly accurate, although there was one glaring anachronism present in the epilogue of the book.

As for character development, well we learn a great deal about Aurora. Her past, her issues, why she is who she is. As for Elbridge, for 75% of the book, he feels like a plot device to serve Aurora.

The story tells us that relationships are not perfect, nor are they fixed with a magic wand, but the end does feel like a bit of a deus ex machina.

Barbara Goldie does an excellent job narrating the book and expressing real and valid emotion in the characters. She definitely makes the story come alive and keeps the listener engaged.

Definitely worth a listen, and thoroughly enjoyable the whole way through!

The Doctor’s Mail-Order Bride

After the death of her guardian, Aurora was left with nothing. When the opportunity came up to become a mail order bride, it looked like that may be the solution to all her problems, but is that really the life she wants?

The story is short and sweet, and Aurora was exactly as I would imagine most mail order brides would have been... unsure, scared, and not instantly head over heels in love. I did feel the ending was a bit rushed though.

Barbara Goldie is a new narrator to me. I thought the performance was very well done. She did a fantastic job of portraying all of the different emotions. The characters really came alive.

Very good

This was a very good short and sweet love story set in the 1880’s in Colorado. The characters are easy to relate to and the narrator does a wonderful job reading and bringing the characters to life.

Sweet story

This is a short and sweet tale of companionship and finding love. The narrator's voice is pleasant and does a good job at switching tone between characters. I am definitely interested in hearing more from this author in the future.
