Histoire
After seven years of bitter war, the end has come at last for the conflict known infamously as the Horus Heresy. Terra now lies within the Warmaster’s sights, the Throneworld and the seat of his father’s rule. Horus’ desire is nothing less than the death of the Emperor of Mankind and the utter subjugation of the Imperium. He has become the ascendant vessel of Chaos and amassed a terrible army with which to enact his will and vengeance. But the way to the Throne will be hard as the primarch Rogal Dorn, the Praetorian and protector of Terra, marshals the defences.

Of all the Emperor’s sons who fell to Chaos, it is perhaps Magnus the Red whose tale is the most tragic. Sanctioned because of his desire for knowledge, chastised, judged, and shattered to his very elements – there is much for the Crimson King to feel vengeful for. Yet revenge is not the only thing that draws him to Terra alongside the Warmaster’s besieging armies. He seeks something, a fragment, the missing piece of himself that lies within the most impregnable place on the planet – the inner sanctum of the Imperial Palace.

Supreme Grand Master Azrael summons Lazarus and his Fifth Company to honour an old debt on the Knight world of Reis – a planet upon which the warp has set its hungry gaze. But Lazarus is not so sure Reis wants to be saved – its Knights are long lost, its governance is dogged by political strife, and internecine conflict hampers the world’s defence against an ancient evil. An evil which, like Lazarus himself, refuses to die.

Before the being called the Emperor revealed himself, before the rise of the aeldari, before the necrontyr traded their flesh for immortal metal, the world was born in violence. Even when they inhabited bodies of flesh, Trazyn the Infinite and Orikan the Diviner were polar opposites. Trazyn, a collector of historical oddities, presides over a gallery full of the most dangerous artefacts - and people - of the galactic past. Orikan, a chronomancer without peer, draws zodiacs that predict and manipulate the future.

Description
Siege of Terra Book 8, Part 1
The arch-traitor Horus Lupercal's forces have bombarded Terra and the Imperial Palace lies in ruins. With the Emperor's dream in tatters, he seeks only to rob Chaos of its ultimate victory...
LISTEN TO IT BECAUSE
It's the beginning of the ultimate conclusion to the Horus Heresy, and hope still remains for the Loyalists! The Emperor plans a gambit that could snatch victory from the jaws of defeat – but at what cost?
THE STORY
There is no way out.
The walls have fallen, the gates are breached, and the defenders are slain. It is the end and the death. After seven brutal years of civil war, the Warmaster stands on the verge of victory. Horus Lupercal, once beloved son, has come to murder his father. The Emperor, a shining beacon of hope to many, an unscrupulous tyrant to others, must die. The lives of uncountable numbers have been extinguished and even primarchs, once thought immortal, have been laid low. The Emperor's dream lies in tatters, but there remains a sliver of hope.
Now, at the final hour of the final day, the Emperor rises. With him come his Angel, his Praetorian, and his Captain, all determined to enact terrible vengeance. Yet the hope is slim, for the Warmaster sees all and knows all, and the ultimate victory of Chaos is at hand.
There is no way out.

So many cliff hangers!
Dan Abnett is a phenomenal GW writer. He has brought life, and fleshed out the nearly mythical story of the long fabled Siege Of Terra and Horus Heresy, which I'm sure most of us never truly expected to see fully written and completely told.
He's left volume 1 on so many cliff hangers that we can only hope volume 2 isn't years away yet. R.R Martin could learn a thing or two.

How many times in one's life does one get to read the ending to a series you love.. and that series is longer than a handful of books.
Thank God for this series, and thank God for this writer.

Too convoluted and drawn out.
This is really long and convoluted when it doesn’t need to be. There were parts where I felt like it was just dragging on for the sake of dragging on.
As always the narrator did a good job with what they were given.

you know most of this book already
author did a good job but I'm sure most readers will already know how most events of this book go. it's not a bad read but it's all very well known content already. it's a long book with alot of swapping around due to so much characters. I felt like pt 1 and 2 could have been combined into one much smaller experience. if you're a lore junkie I'm sure you'll wanna read it anyway, just go in with tempered expectations

This book was amazing. 2 of the best. Dan Abnett writing and Jonathan Keeble narrating. I couldn’t stop listening. 6/5 for story and 6/5 for narration. Beautiful writing for the storyline that weaves through the unforgettable characters in the final chapter on Terra. Thank you.

one of the best HH books
Not a dull moment despite 18 hour runtime, and Keeble's narration is amazing as always. Advances the plot quite a bit more than I expected given that parts of the previous SoT books seemed to draw things out a bit.
