"[Shari Lapena is] the queen of the one-sit read"Linwood Barclay

A long-ago accident—and a visitor from out of the blue. . .

Stephanie and Patrick are adjusting to life with their colicky twin girls. The babies are a handful, but even as Stephanie struggles with the disorientation of sleep deprivation, there's one thing she's sure of: she has all she ever wanted.

Then Erica, a woman from Patrick's past, appears and makes a disturbing accusation. Patrick had always said his first wife's death was an accident, but now Erica claims it was murder.

Patrick insists he's innocent, that this is nothing but a blackmail attempt. Still, Erica knows things about Patrick—things that make Stephanie begin to question her husband. Stephanie isn't sure what, or who, to believe. As Stephanie's trust in Patrick begins to falter, Patrick stands to lose everything. Is Patrick telling the truth—is Erica the persuasive liar Patrick says she is? Or has Stephanie made a terrible mistake?

How will it end?

Riveting!

The author keeps you guessing and spins an incredibly interesting story. It was riveting and I loved it. The narrator is unable to voice male characters. They all sound the same. Otherwise, it’s a very enjoyable listen.

strange ending

the en ding is very frustrating...just like that it is over...hate that. The story is really good but the ending looks like the author was tired and just wanted to finish the story.

Did not like the abrupt ending.

I like a book where you are not left guessing after it is finished. I like guessing during the story but expect an actual ending. Otherwise I enjoyed the book and narrator.

Thrillerish

To be honest I didn’t love the narration, particularly the male voices, but that’s just me. With that being said it grew on me. I enjoyed the stories twists and turns and the end is definitely a good surprise. However, at times felt drawn out. If you like a mild thriller/mystery it’s a good pick!

Laughable

A few chapters in I was ready to give up on this predictable story that verges on the laughable. The cardboard characters seem to overlook significant red flags to make the plot work. There is little to figure out and zero surprises that aren’t ludicrous. I normally like this narrator but every make sounds exactly the same. It’s hard to make this storyline sound anything more than ridiculous.

Predictable

Not the riveting, nail biting thriller I was expecting. Story line was very predictable and POV’s all over the place which made it sometimes confusing. It kept my attention but was not overly impressed.

Starts out with potential, goes downhill fast

The story began with potential, but the mediocre, repetitive writing and poor execution quickly set in. The story jumped all over the place and it felt like it wasn't edited at all. The writing was overly descriptive and juvenile, as if a freshman English major wrote it. it jumped all over the place and the ending was abrupt and frustrating, after wasting so many hours hoping it would get better. I have no idea why I finished this book, and don't know where any of these positive reviews are coming from.
