Publisher's Summary

The ships came at dawn. Dean’s wife is dead. Her last words: When the ships come...wear the necklace. Then the ships arrived.

Cities all around the world reported strange alien vessels descending. Some saw them as the heralds of a new age; others fired everything they had at them. All were taken as the beams lashed down and drew them into the sky.

Dean was left behind, seemingly the last man on Earth. A trail of clues left by his dead wife guides Dean on a perilous journey across America and beyond to learn the truth behind the mysterious ships and save humanity from its doom.

But not everything is as it seems.

The Event is the epic first novel by Nathan Hystad, creator of the best-selling Explorations anthology series.

A fun romp full of clichés

The story arc is great, if you want a fun little sci-fi adventure. But the writing and character development don't quite live up to the premise. The clearest example was a romantic attraction out of nowhere just because there has to be a love interest, with no explanation for why the characters are drawn to each other. The book also felt a bit rushed in places. Overall, I don't regret my purchase but I won't be buying the sequel.

Better than I thought

I love SF, but am mostly disappointing when buying them, most SF books are, well, Just unbelievable, so I was surprised with this one, it kept my interest, the story was good, as well as the characters, will definitely read more from this author.

I wasn’t sure, but the description swayed me

So here I was furiously looking for one of the ‘next’ books from one of my favourite authors and of course noooone of them have released new books, so I decided I would try something new, you know just because I have nothing better to do, the usual story. Anyways I decided on this book as the description arose my curiosity, and I must say I was very happy with this book, so much so I completely forgot about the aforementioned authors with no new books to release. Now that im done this one I will be moving onto the next and if all goes good with the next book I will be adding this author to my family of core writing people I enjoy.

Go ahead and pick this hidden gem up, or I guess put your ear buds in or head phones on, because lets face it, who on gods green earth has the time to actually sit down and read a book these days, since were all in a hurry to do nothing you may as well do something while doing nothing and give this book a try.

Regards,

From an amateur who thinks he’s a amateur

Kinda cool premise...poorly executed

Not sure what genre this book fits into. It reads like a rejected manuscript for a Twilight Zone episode. The writing is banal, cliche'ed and predictable. There are a couple of plot twists, but they are seen from miles.

The reading is melodramatic with some annoying accents.

I downloaded this one because it was on sale. Waste of 4 bucks. Should have got a Latte or something

Not For Me

This probably would be a higher rating of it didn't kind of drag in the middle, if it was easier to distinguish between the good and the bad guys, and if the only bad human hadn't been black.

Change narrator

The author has chosen a unique story but a poor choice in narrator has made it unbearable. The narrator does not seem to understand the concept of punctuation; reading as if he is in a hurry. This alone makes the story difficult to understand and was returned.

Not thought out

I found the story to be full of just in time plot fixes, as if the author was trying to fix everything as they wrote it, as opposed to a structured story that was thought out initially. the main character was good, but it helps with a very skilled narrator like Luke Daniels to give him personality. What I enjoyed was Luke's performance, and kind of rolled my eyes at the story's 'twists'.

Good start, then gets stupid SPOILERS

Fun discovery stage but then it got stupid. Once the aliens started revealing themselves it got predictable. In space a bunch of impossible happens and I deleted the book before I finished it. I feel bad for the narrator because he had to see it through to the end.
