Publisher's Summary

Four decades after it first shook the nation, then the world, William Peter Blatty's thrilling masterwork of faith and demonic possession returns in an even more powerful form. Raw and profane, shocking and blood-chilling, it remains a modern parable of good and evil and perhaps the most terrifying novel ever written.

Creepy goodness!

I have seen the movie and it is good but man! This is so much better. The characters in this book are so much more alive and the story more in depth. I also loved William Peter Blatty's narration, he makes the characters unbelievably real. If you are a fan of the movie give this a listen, there are gaps in the story you can't get on screen....♨️👹👺😨

Better than the movie

Really well written, but disturbing in many places, as the movie was. There are some elements that work better in book or audiobook form than they did in the movie, however, as well as subtle differences that I think are for the best in the book. I’ll leave that up you to agree or disagree with if you listen to this. Recommended

Perfect!

I can't imagine a better reading of this book than by the author. I was utterly captivated from start to finish. I love the movie, but this was another level. Graphic and disturbing at times, but you don't listen to a book called The Exorcist expecting puppies and rainbows.

Better than the movie.

Just as good as the movie, if not better. I highly recommend this audio book.

Wonderfully done

I really, really loved this book. I've seen the movie so many times, I honestly did not expect the book to be so much more impactful. The performance of the narrator was perfect, I really liked that the author was the one narrating because I felt like it was read exactly how he intended it to be. The voices were perfect and the demon sounded extremely unsettling. Highly recommended.

It’s The Exorcist!!

What can I say? It’s The Exorcist!
Read by the author is fantastic. He wrote it, there’s no interpretation, the characters are his. Great story, very impressively narrated. Loved it

Phenomenal Narration, OK Story

William Peter Blatty truly gifted us with this narration. Being the Author, he knows exactly how he wants the tone and mood to be set, which allows us as the reader to pick up on what is trying to be conveyed. His Demon voice is 10/10, and his deliveries on the lines are something to behold.

The story on the other hand felt like it lacked.
I enjoyed the story, dont get me wrong- I just *personally* felt that we could have gone into more details about the Demon himself. For instance, the intro of the book is set in iraq, with a kid who holds the 6th sense essentially, why didnt we go more into that, even for just a minute of extra content tops? Perhaps im just wanting something that is already available, and wasnt meant for this story.

All in all, definitely worthy of a read.

Masterful

This book should be required reading for Creative Writing classes. If a prospective author wants to learn how to craft a horror novel, they should study 'The Exorcist'. The atmosphere is sombre, the characters are relatable, the foreshadowing is unparalleled, and the pacing - from introduction to build-up to climax - is nearly flawless. William Peter Blatty offers a genuine Classic in Horror Literature.

Too often, authors who read their own work overestimate their own skills. True, they know the story and characters intimately, but they are not professionals. That is not a problem here - Blatty reads with remarkable tone, timbre, and cadence. Additionally, his pacing is spot-on and he performs the voice-acting with genuine skill (character voices are distinctive and accents sound remarkably accurate). The decision to add Eliana Shaskin to read a recorded Regan later in the novel was a good one, however - Blatty's most notable flaw is that he doesn't do liitle girl voices justice.

After factoring in the quality audio standards, this 40th Anniversary presentation of a peerless horror novel rates 10 out of 10 stars. Spend the Credit.
