Publisher's Summary

After taking and defending Vuzgal, Erik and Rugrat have a new task to complete: build a city.

They have been racing through the realms at this point, but Vuzgal is a prize that they can't simply give up on. Alva is mobilized, as are their allies, to build out the new city.

It is time that they solidify their gains, working on their crafts, their fighting ability, and cultivation. As they expand their personal power, their gaze turns toward Vermire, to the dungeon. It's time they started to exert the strength they've built up.

Alva moves in the shadows, but to what effect? The answer lies in the Fifth Realm.

tl;dr?

might be an interesting story but the writing is bad. I read all the other books before this one and by the time I got jere I was fed up with the same lines over and over again multiple times in every book.

two words, EXPOSITION DUMP

Parts of this book are maddeningly boring just hours of exposition about politics this is the first time I've skipped hours of a book at a time. About 8 hours of this book could be removed and nothing of value would be lost only continuing because of the credits I've already spent

I love this series

New narrator took some getting used to but now I can’t say which one is better. Great series!

Too much focus on crafting.

The series has been average to above average, but lately it's been getting more and more dull with so much focus on the crafting systems and town politics.

interest was waning a bit but was still going to continue on, until I saw the next book has an all new narrator. Sampled a bit, and it's a big giant no from me. Guess this is where the series ends.

Quality story

the last book had some disappointing technical problems with volume levels, but this one is back with the quality that the previous titles had. It is an immersive story that I can't get enough of.

Lover the series, this book dragged

The overall series is quite enjoyable. This books had a lot of slow sections the broke up the flow of the book. There was a bit too much information. At times I found myself jumping forward minutes at a time to get through needless meetings or introspections. Still love the series and will continue but this book was by far the low point of the series to date.

story drags out a bit and gets a little redundant

good but struggled at times with the story going in circles, over all good book but like most sets of books... the first book is the best.

Unnessacary

Most of this book was superfluous. Going over a lot of things already covered. Felt like the author lost grip on where stories were going due to the number of characters they were trying to cover. Some character development felt stagnant while others seemed rushed. I don't think I will continue with this series from this point and not because of the change in narration.

Great series

Great series, I love Eric and Rugrat's adventures. They've done a lot of stuff in fantasy games that I wanted to do, I hope they find more people from Earth.

There are a lot of things the author seems to either contradict himself with or just forget altogether. Rugrats rank changed in books in the Alva Military going back and forth between Warrant and Sergeant. Also there should never be anyone who isn't able to defend against being falsely accused of ANYTHING in the 10 realms. They literally just have to make an oath about their actions, and ask that their accuser do the same thing. It would be instantly resolved. Yet the author and characters keep forgetting this and only use it when it's convenient. Quinn and Julila in the formation school, the expert's that were recruited to the school, etc.. The second someone falsely accuses you of something, the immediate response should be an oath on the 10 realms about what really happened or your innocence in the matter.

Also Oaths for Alva have too many loopholes. The "reasonable" part changes for people, especially those of the 10 realms who could claim it's not reasonable for Eric and Rugrat to ask them not to be arrogant and lord there power over people weaker than them since that's how the 10 realms works everywhere else. What they need is a charter of behaviour that people have to swear to uphold. And also things in the oath about the spirit of the oath being upheld the way they think Eric and Rugrat meant it, and that if someone finds a loophole in the oath they will not only not try to exploit it, they will come forward and point it out. If that was included in the oaths, it would cause a lot less problems.

Also Eric never learned simple inorganic scan from Rugrat, which would help him with alchemy if he scanned the finished products. And they created spells in the beginning, but almost never tried to make any new ones afterwards even though they were looking for spells to do stuff, instead of just trying to make the spell themselves and seeing if it worked or failed before trying to buy it somewhere.

As soon as Eric found out how the Alchemy association graded people, he should have spread that to every other craft in Alva, but he didn't. Also literally EVERYONE who can cast a spell should know how to heal, they don't have to do it well, but just be able to do it. They would have saved so many soldiers of theirs if they all could heal in some manner.
