Publisher's Summary

The Gift Is in the Making retells previously published Anishinaabeg stories, bringing to life Anishinaabeg values and teachings to a new generation. Listeners are immersed in a world where all genders are respected, the tiniest being has influence in the world, and unconditional love binds families and communities to each other and to their homeland. Sprinkled with gentle humor and the Anishinaabe language, this collection of stories speaks to children and adults alike and reminds us of the timelessness of stories that touch the heart.

What the critics say

“The stories have been selected, honed and told by the author many times before they were written down and are presented with sly humour, respect and awareness of a long storytelling tradition continuing into the present. The stories vary in their length, their tone, their concrete presentation (several are structured as long narrative poems), and all are relevant to today, not only for the Anishinabe children but for all citizens of western society. Highly Recommended.” (Gail de Vos for CM Association)

Wonderful stories

There’s so much packed in each story. There’s something to be gained listening to them again and again. Thank you Leanne for sharing these with the world

Much Needed Medicine In These Pages

I’ve listened to this book probably half a dozen times since I got it last month. It’s playful, wise, illustrative, and is a much needed serving of Indigenous ways of knowing, being, doing & understanding. So generous to share the Anishinaabe language with the world. Hearing this language being spoken is proof that white supremacy ultimately failed when they tried to exterminate us. Indigenous ways of knowing and being are going to save this planet thank you Leanne Betasamosake Simpson for sharing this gifts. Thank thank you narrator Tiffany Ayalik for bringing such heart and spirit to your performance, I’m sure the ancestors are smiling. This book will be on a steady listening rotation in my house and classroom.

Too complicated to listen

There are too terms to retain to be able to understand what she wants to pass by the book.

So I don't understand what is the point.

I prefer to mark as I ended it.
