In 1984, Detective Eric O'Malley investigated the bizarre deaths of a young couple, their bodies found naked by the side of a creek in Sydney's northern suburbs. Shortly before their demise, O'Malley learned, the pair had attended a swingers' party.

The case was barely open before it was deemed an accident. But O'Malley knew it was murder. He just couldn't prove it.

Thirty-five years later, O'Malley is found dead in his flat in what looks like a drug overdose. But his son James knows something's amiss. His dad was close to solving that case after all these years. And someone else knew it.

To track down his father's killer, James must find the men and women who were there on the fateful night when that young couple died. This was the night of 'The Goodbye Party' - and uncovering its secrets will lead James down a dark path, filled with horrific twists and turns.

Inspired by Sydney’s real-life Bogle-Chandler case, playwright Louis Nowra (writer of Australian classics Cosi, Radiance and The Golden Age) creates an enthralling multicast audio drama, featuring an exceptional cast including Ben Oxenbould (Deep Water, Wolf Creek), Steve Bisley (Water Rats, Mad Max), and Aaron Pedersen (Mystery Road, Jack Irish).

Worth a Listen

Got this title for free and it was an enjoyable listen. I think the performances were good; some voices better than others. The main character a little monotone at times but I enjoyed his voice. Story was interesting but by the end it was a little too much for me and seemed pretty rushed. Think the end should have had some after story. Not sure how much I'd pay for this if it wasn't currently free, so I recommend getting it while it's in sale!

Suspenseful and entertaining

I listened to this on a vacation that required a lot of driving. The cast and sound effects pull you deeply into the story, I was sad when it ended! The case was so bizarre that it was fun trying to figure out who the murderer was. Brilliant, entertaining and a great way to spend a long drive!

A fun listen overall

Enjoyable story, really liked the interesting cast of characters and the main character. The conclusion of the story was a little unsatisfying but overall a good listen. I have to agree with other reviewers about the character of Lily at the end. Just awful acting! At least she only appeared briefly at the end. Overall, worth a listen and a fun mystery to follow.
