In 1984, Detective Eric O'Malley investigated the bizarre deaths of a young couple, their bodies found naked by the side of a creek in Sydney's northern suburbs. Shortly before their demise, O'Malley learned, the pair had attended a swingers' party.

The case was barely open before it was deemed an accident. But O'Malley knew it was murder. He just couldn't prove it.

Thirty-five years later, O'Malley is found dead in his flat in what looks like a drug overdose. But his son James knows something's amiss. His dad was close to solving that case after all these years. And someone else knew it.

To track down his father's killer, James must find the men and women who were there on the fateful night when that young couple died. This was the night of 'The Goodbye Party' - and uncovering its secrets will lead James down a dark path, filled with horrific twists and turns.

Inspired by Sydney’s real-life Bogle-Chandler case, playwright Louis Nowra (writer of Australian classics Cosi, Radiance and The Golden Age) creates an enthralling multicast audio drama, featuring an exceptional cast including Ben Oxenbould (Deep Water, Wolf Creek), Steve Bisley (Water Rats, Mad Max), and Aaron Pedersen (Mystery Road, Jack Irish).

A fun listen overall

Enjoyable story, really liked the interesting cast of characters and the main character. The conclusion of the story was a little unsatisfying but overall a good listen. I have to agree with other reviewers about the character of Lily at the end. Just awful acting! At least she only appeared briefly at the end. Overall, worth a listen and a fun mystery to follow.

Emtertaining story, 'radio play' performance

Entertaining listen, casting was good, story had interesting twists. Not often do we get multiple voices. Recommended.

Totally enjoyable...

So many twists and turns that included such a wide range of issues always current... Amputee, feminism, jealous betrayal, subterfuge. What an imaginative journey.

Good storyline

Quite enjoyed the story and it kept you guessing until the end. Also enjoyed the narration regarding Sydney and hearing the bird calls in the background.

Just interesting enough to not be a waste of time.

Overall it was worth the listen. Very good performances with the exception of one character near the end. The story is frustrating at times. The protagonist is annoyingly slow to pick up on obvious things at the beginning of the story while the ending was rushed and unsatisfying. That said I was interested the whole time, despite the somewhat pedestrian and cliched plot. Finally, while it's not the fault of the book (not reflected in star ratings), the "episode" format is unnecessary and annoying, It would be fine if the Audible app offered someway of continuous (and hands free) play, but it doesn't. Not only that, the app prompts you for a review after every episode. This is an issue with with every book in this format.

Good audiobook

Voice acting top notch. Loved this, wish there were more with such good audio and voice actors.
