In 1984, Detective Eric O'Malley investigated the bizarre deaths of a young couple, their bodies found naked by the side of a creek in Sydney's northern suburbs. Shortly before their demise, O'Malley learned, the pair had attended a swingers' party.

The case was barely open before it was deemed an accident. But O'Malley knew it was murder. He just couldn't prove it.

Thirty-five years later, O'Malley is found dead in his flat in what looks like a drug overdose. But his son James knows something's amiss. His dad was close to solving that case after all these years. And someone else knew it.

To track down his father's killer, James must find the men and women who were there on the fateful night when that young couple died. This was the night of 'The Goodbye Party' - and uncovering its secrets will lead James down a dark path, filled with horrific twists and turns.

Inspired by Sydney’s real-life Bogle-Chandler case, playwright Louis Nowra (writer of Australian classics Cosi, Radiance and The Golden Age) creates an enthralling multicast audio drama, featuring an exceptional cast including Ben Oxenbould (Deep Water, Wolf Creek), Steve Bisley (Water Rats, Mad Max), and Aaron Pedersen (Mystery Road, Jack Irish).

Good story but background noise on recording was distracting

Did not enjoy the split chapters and having to stop listening to restart the book. Lost the flow. What was that persistent background noise. Squeaking and squealing recording equipment?

Fascinating

Great story and feels very real, acting is very genuine also for a crime/suspense theme, highly recommended!

Good read

Fun read. I did enjoy the performance and the plot was interesting. I feel like it would be a perfect book to enjoy on the way to work or just while going for a walk.

Quite Enjoyable, Only One Flaw

The only flaw in this story is that painful habit of male authors to write male lead characters as so irresistible that their lives read like Hustler magazine "Letters to the Editor." Admittedly, the theme of the mystery is sexual moral panic, but so many male authors do the above-mentioned that it feels formulaic and phoney.

It's a small flaw in a compelling well-designed plot and phenomenal series of performances. The actors voicing these characters were superlative and draw the reader in completely!

Writing and actors were good, story is predictable

For about half of the book I was wondering what happened, then some information came about and I guessed who done it. I'd say it's worth a listen for the acting, but be prepared for a predictable story.

Sitting on the edge of my seat!

I wasn't sure what to expect because I had never heard of the author before. I am very glad that I took a chance to listen to this one. What a story! I was sitting on the edge of my seat listening to this! Everything about this production from the music to the voice cast of characters to the storyline itself all meshed together to create something brilliant! I had a hard time pausing my listening to get on with my day. Very glad I took that chance. I know I will listen to this one again and again.
