Story
Following deaths, divorces, or the confusion of major relocation, many adults tell their children “don’t feel bad”. In fact, say the authors of the highly praised The Grief Recovery Handbook, feeling bad or sad is precisely the appropriate emotion attached to sad events. Encouraging a child to bypass grief without completion can cause unseen long-term damage.

It introduced the world to the now-famous five stages: denial, anger, bargaining, depression, and acceptance. On Grief and Grieving applies these stages to the process of grieving and weaves together theory, inspiration, and practical advice, all based on Kübler-Ross' and Kessler's professional and personal experiences.

What the critics say
“This book is required for all my classes. The more I use this book, the more I believe that unresolved grief is the major underlying issue in most people’s lives. It is the only work of its kind that I know of that outlines the problem and provides the solution.” (Bernard McGrane, Ph.D., Professor of Sociology, Chapman University)

A must read for anyone dealing with loss.
The Grief Recovery Handbook contains so much helpful information; information about loss and grief that we should have been taught at a young age. The Grief Recovery Handbook provides invaluable, life-long tools to assist people move through the challenges associated with loss of any kind. I highly recommend the book and strongly encourage readers to do the work outlined in the book (ideally with a Grief Recovery Method Specialist™ www.griefrecoverymethod.com - if available in your area).

Not very deep
it looks like this book takes a couple of its philosophies and stretches them out. Even though I'm dealing with grief I found this book quite unappealing. I do not agree with two of its points so far. I believe that you do not have to forgive someone who wronged you. Secondly, if you're coming out of a toxic relationship or lost a toxic person in your life, you don't have to believe that you have some responsibility for being sad or angry. In case the book states otherwise, this was my understanding of it.

Best read ever,
I struggled for years with the death of my true sole mate and beloved wife
of 38 years. This book pulled me out of deep depression, showing
me how deal with not just loss from death
but all other types of losses that we hold inside not realizing it.
Thanks to all involved in writting his book and toTerri for bringing it to me.

Healing
I have bought this book for five different people who were going through grieving and then decided to listen to it by audio after losing my Father three weeks ago and I got so much more out of it from being at the receiving end now. I have some work to do!
Loved it! And now bought for my 4 sisters and a step daughter who lost her Mom years ago..
