Publisher's Summary

Tonight, Osmond Box, the reclusive yet wildly successful writer/director known for his completely surprising Broadway plays, is debuting his seventh and most highly anticipated production of his career: The Guilty. Nothing is known about the story, the setting, the premise, or even the actors involved. The first people to discover the truth will be the lucky ones sitting in those seats opening night. Phones are collected; doors are locked. The rest of the world eagerly awaits the first reviews....

Two hours later, when the doors are finally allowed to open, half of the audience will be applauding wildly. The other half will be fleeing the theater in mortal terror. Has Osmond Box done it again? Or has he done something far, far worse?

Please note: Portions of this show contain mature language and themes. Listener discretion is advised.

What a great campy, murder mystery.

This was a thoroughly enjoyable listen. The mystery kept me guessing and every new twist was better than the last.

Great book!

Loved it! And normally I'm not a bug fan of dialogues in a book! I definitely recommend it!

Ludicrous Premise Works

Comic Book Author Duane Swierczynski (under the rubric of the James Patterson brand) offers an imaginative Suspense-Thriller about a crime committed in plain sight (namely on a Broadway stage). It's told through retrospective police interviews of audience members, stage employees, and überfans interspersed with excerpts from the on-stage production.
You *really* need to set aside logic to accept this story - but Swierczynski is quite good at making it easy - not flawlessly, mind you.. but with enough rapid-fire pacing to keep it moving relentlessly.

The full cast performance is what makes the tale shine, however. John Lithgow is worthy of particular praise.. but every voice-actor brings the story to life with emotive performances. Bravo to all.
Furthermore, Audible Originals Inc. producers add largely judicious background music and an audience laugh track (to remind us that it's supposed to be a play, after all). The inclusion contributes to the implausibilty of the scenario, but doesn't overwhelm the story.

In toto, 'The Guilty' merits 9 stars out of 10. As a quite short listen, the inclusion of the radioplay as part of the 'Plus' catalog is appreciated. Although I was all too frequently taken out of the illusion of reality by simple logic, I feel fortunate to have found it and enjoyed my afternoon.

Nice plot twist

pretty good, well performed, a little long, but a lot of twists to keep it interesting right to the end.

Intriguing

Listening to The Guilty was like being in the front row of the most intriguing live performance play. The back and forth injection of the detectives' dialog, assigned to solve the mystery, pieced the puzzle together. The plot however was the best part. Well done!

Mystery play starring John Lithgow

I loved the plot twists in this mystery play, but was disappointed with the lack of character and plot development in the ending twists.
