Publisher's Summary

Jackman and Evans are back in the latest gripping thriller by Joy Ellis, performed by the incomparable Richard Armitage.

Jackman’s sister-in-law Sarah disappears to London and throws herself into the river. What drove her to this? She was a woman with a seemingly happy homelife and two beloved sons. DI Jackman and DI Evans dig into Sarah’s life. And Jackman realises he knew almost nothing about his sister-in-law’s past.

Then, they discover a woman in a neighbouring village died in similar circumstances. What is the connection to a convicted murderer whose family are convinced he is innocent? Who is really pulling the strings?

In prison, EVERYONE says they’re guilty!!!

Overall, this book is very good, and the narration is great :-) :-)
The ONE, HUGE problem is the author’s choice to perpetuate a common trope which emphatically states a HUGE myth as truth. In real life, this myth destroys the lives of wrongfully convicted people. It’s very disappointing, that the author chooses to re-injure these victims of the Criminal Justice System.
The myth? That “no one’s guilty in prison; they all say they didn’t do it”. The OPPOSITE is true. In prison, saying that you’re innocent puts you at the very bottom of the pecking order. The other inmates and the guards see you as EXTREMELY weak; you are a person who isn’t even tough enough to have committed the most simple of non-violent crimes. According to you, you have committed NO crime; thus, you are both someone to whom no other prisoner feels they can relate AND the weakest member of the prison population; you have a huge target on your back, which attracts an obscenely large amount of abuse.
Don’t believe that this is true? Check with wrongfully convicted, later exonerated people. Check with one of us Criminologists. Check with the tireless volunteers and staff of The Innocence Project ( www.innocenceproject.org ), and/or of Innocence Canada ( www.innocenceCanada.com ).

Keep it in the family!

This mystery by Joy Ellis and deftly narrated by Richard Armitage shows how damage to young children by parents can cycle through families. I enjoyed the relationships of the main character's family, as well as the developing ones around him. They were a great foil to the bad relationships that caused the bad guy's behaviour. For sure, I must read the next book: The Stolen Boys!

Cannot wait to read the next book in the series. Excellent story written by Joy Ellis. Also wonderfully read by Richard Armitage. He makes each character his own and you just cannot stop listening.

Great read

Another great book by Joy Ellis. It’s like watching a series on TV (except better!). You have all your favourite characters you’ve come to know and love with new characters thrown in each book. Off on another adventure! Great narration too!
