Publisher's Summary

Held captive in the barbarian kingdom of Venda, Lia and Rafe have little chance of escape...and even less of being together.

Desperate to save her life, Lia's erstwhile assassin, Kaden, has told the Vendan Komisar that she has a magical gift, and the Komisar's interest in Lia is greater than either Kaden or Lia foresaw.

Meanwhile the foundations of Lia's deeply held beliefs are crumbling beneath her. Nothing is straightforward: There's Rafe, who lied to her but has sacrificed his freedom to protect her; Kaden, who meant to assassinate her but has now saved her life; and the Vendans, whom she always believed to be barbarians but whom she now realizes are people who have been terribly brutalized by the kingdoms of Dalbreck and Morrighan. Wrestling with her upbringing, her gift, and her very sense of self, Lia will have to make powerful choices that affect her country, her people...and her own destiny.

Read by Emily Rankin, with Ryan Gesell, Kirby Heyborne, Kim Mai Guest, and Ann Marie Lee.

Almost a 5 star read

I loved this!!! While the majority of the book was a sold 4 stars, just the last few chapters would be a five star read. I was on the edge of my seat and I wanted to throw my phone across the room. 4.5 stars overall.

In love

I absolutely loved this book and the narrators. Especially Ryan - reader of the character Rafe.

By far the BEST series I’ve ever read!

I’m obsessed. This sequel had me from page one and I could not put it down! I can’t wait to read the conclusion.

This narrator killed my favourite books!!

I LOVE this series & have read it probably 5 times…but THIS NARRATOR. In my estimation, she lent zero personality to this performance, but gave heaps of synthetic empathy, which, because it was (in my opinion) utterly contrived, everything came across incredibly patronizing from the narrator. This is such a gripping tale, & the narrator(s) just wrecked it for me.

Will not be continuing on

I didn't love the first book so I thought I'd give the second one a chance, but I will not be continuing onto the third book. Every choice Lia made in this book made me angry, I could not stand her character. I found having so many different characters made it confusing and half the stories felt extremely irrelevant. It was a little bit more exciting than the first book but not by much.
