About this listen

At one time, Corrie ten Boom would have laughed at the idea that she had a story to tell. For the first 50 years of her life, nothing out of the ordinary ever happened to her. She was a spinster watchmaker living contentedly with her sister and their elderly father in the tiny house over their shop in Haarlem. Their uneventful days, as regulated as their own watches, revolved around their abiding love for one another.

But with the Nazi invasion and occupation of Holland, everything changed. Corrie ten Boom and her family became leaders in the Dutch underground, hiding Jewish people in their home in a specially built room and aiding their escape from the Nazis. For their pains, all but Corrie found death in a concentration camp.

Here is a story aglow with the glory of God and the courage of a quiet Christian whose life was transformed by it.

What the critics say

"Wanda McCaddon does great credit to the writers of this true story. Her emotional control makes the tension and horror of the family’s plight more real and hideous. The listener is left with a story of extraordinary humanity, goodness and overwhelming love." ( AudioFile)

I read alot of books about ww2 and the holocaust and there was so much suffering and misery, this story is a bright light in all the chaos. it's not a book about great battles or daring escape but a book about people's faith and forgiveness and outlook on life.

great story that will give you faith in humanity

I first read The Hiding Place as a young and impressionable high school student. I remember being & still am in awe of the bravery of this family to help their fellow man. The power of their strong faith in being able to find goodness in the most unimaginable places. Trusting in God to help them see their path & the ability to see & forgive the cruelest people.

Even better the 2nd time around!

This book was both beautifully written and read about the unfortunate sad and true story of the occupation. You could just connect with the characters in the book, feel their love and pain and at the same time feel the hope that the author is sharing. I am neither a jew nor know someone close enough who has told me stories about this time but I certainly wept for this book. I am very happy to have had the chance to listen to Miss ten Boom's story and wish I could find more similar to this book. Sending all my love to the survivors and people who have felt anything close to this <3

Both beautiful and sad
