Story
Mesopotamia is the ancient name for the region that is now Iraq, a remarkably advanced civilization that flourished for two-thirds of the time that civilization has existed on Earth. Mesopotamians mastered irrigation agriculture; built the first complex urban societies; developed writing, literature, and law; and united vast regions through warfare and diplomacy. While civilizations like Greece and Rome have an unbroken tradition of written histories, the rich history of Mesopotamia has only been recently rediscovered, thanks to the decipherment of Mesopotamia's cuneiform writing less than 200 years ago.

Despite their short length, these works are powerful examinations of the same subjects and themes that longer "great books" discuss.

For the past few hundred years, most of what we’ve been taught about the native cultures of North America came from reports authored by the conquerors and colonizers who destroyed them. Now - with the technological advances of modern archaeology and a new perspective on world history - we are finally able to piece together their compelling true stories. In Ancient Civilizations of North America, Professor Edwin Barnhart, Director of the Maya Exploration Center, will open your eyes to a fascinating world you never knew existed - even though you’ve been living right next to it, or even on top of it.

Language defines us as a species, placing humans head and shoulders above even the most proficient animal communicators. What is Western Civilization? According to Professor Noble, it is "much more than human and political geography," encompassing myriad forms of political and institutional structures - from monarchies to participatory republics - and its own traditions of political discourse. It involves choices about who gets to participate in any given society and the ways in which societies have resolved the tension between individual self-interest and the common good.

Whether taken as a book of faith or a cultural artifact, the New Testament is among the most significant writings the world has ever known, its web of meaning relied upon by virtually every major writer in the last 2,000 years. Yet the New Testament is not only one of Western civilization’s most believed books, but also one of its most widely disputed, often maligned, and least clearly understood, with a vast number of people unaware of how it was written and transmitted.

Publisher's Summary
Ancient Egyptian civilization is so grand our minds sometimes have difficulty adjusting to it. It lasted 3,000 years, longer than any other on the planet. Its Great Pyramid of Cheops was the tallest building in the world until well into the 19th century and remains the only Ancient Wonder still standing. And it was the most technologically advanced of the ancient civilizations, with the medical knowledge that made Egyptian physicians the most famous in the world.
Yet even after deciphering its hieroglyphs, and marveling at its scarabs, mummies, obelisks, and sphinxes, Egyptian civilization remains one of history's most mysterious, as "other" as it is extraordinary. This chronological survey presents the complete history of ancient Egypt's three great Kingdoms: the Old Kingdom, when the pyramids were built and Egypt became a nation under the supreme rule of the pharaoh and the rules of Egyptian art were established; the Middle Kingdom, when Egypt was a nation fighting to restore its greatness; and the New Kingdom, when all the names we know today-Hatshepsut, Tutankhamen, Ramses the Great, Cleopatra, and others-first appeared. Professor Brier's 48 lectures glisten with the kind of vivid anecdotes and human glimpses that make this ancient world breathe again.
"The fun of history is in the details," he notes. "Knowing that Ramses the Great was crippled by arthritis for the last decade of his long life makes us more sympathetic to the boastful monarch who fathered more than 100 children. If we understand what it was like to be a miner sent to the turquoise mines in the Sinai mountains in the summer, we will feel a kinship with our long-dead counterparts."

informative, exciting, educational and CAPTIVATING
I've listened to a number of audio books now and this is my favourite by far.
The material was fascinating, super informative and well presented. The orator was great : you could sense his energy and excitement to talk about the topics. Some might part of how he walks through things a bit annoying, but for me it just added to the mysticism of the whole thing. Brilliant!
I was so jazzed after completing the course that:
- Instead of just treating as background noise, I took detailed notes
- I bought several books and attempted (unsuccessfully) to enroll in a university course on Hieroglyphs
* I am now doing a self-taught course based on the text book
If you've ever even had a passing interest in Egypt, do it - listen to this course!

Amazing to listen to 😍
I bought this book to learn about Egypt because I am going to visit soon. I feel prepared! I feel educated, I know places and stories of importance, no one should visit Egypt without knowledge of its history, these lectures made me feel like I was right there in ancient times, just the knowledge that the great pyramid of Giza is 13.5 acres was one surprise to me ! Thank you for putting this together I enjoyed listening , I will listen to it again soon 😍 Bravo

First audible and no regrets. I have little to no knowledge about Egypt prior to this, but I felt like I’ve learned and taken a lot out of this by the end of it. I’ve been wanting to travel to Egypt and this has helped pique my interest even more. This is a great starter to build your foundation from and you can tell that Bob is extremely passionate about this field. There was never a dull moment for me.
