Description

What do ghosts fear? The Hungry Ones....

At the outskirts of Maple City sits the Crossroads Motel, a throwback to the days when the motor lodge was king. Two years ago, the motel was the site of an act so brutal that its buildings were left to rot.

Jessie Voss, however, sees promise in the Crossroad's bare bones and buys it up, determined to breathe new life into the place.

When the Larson family shows up on her doorstep, road-weary and desperate for a break, Jessie offers them lodging, even though her grand opening is still a week away.

But the arrival of guests awakens the motel, and Jessie soon finds herself host to both the living and the dead.

THE HUNGRY ONES is entertaining as hell!

COME! Let's gather in the stone circle and summon the demon Mr. Tell to whisper the seductive secrets that lay within this book.

*** PLEASE BE AWARE, I AM REVIEWING THE SECOND BOOK IN A SERIES. IF YOU HAVE NOT READ BOOK ONE, DO NOT CONTINUE READING AS THERE MAY BE SPOILERS AHEAD. ***

I just wrapped up this amazing read. Chris Sorensen out did himself with The Hungry Ones which is book two in The Messy Man series. I think I actually enjoyed this book more than The Nightmare Room which is not surprising in the least and I suspect the third installment will be even better than the first two books.

There were so many things I loved about this book. It had everything I raved about in book one. An excellent cast of characters, creepy scenes wound tight with tension, and the intertwined timelines that made this a unique ghost story. Amongst all that, Sorensen managed to create something very unique in my opinion. It was as if readers got to restart the story and chose a new direction for its characters. THE HUNGRY ONES also introduced new characters I fell in love with including a character I didn't get to know from book one in the series. I will also say, the ending is a banger that leaves the story open for new installments which I'm truly grateful for. Exciting new characters, a unique writing voice with wicked ending to boot. What else could a reader ask for?

So, much like book one in the MESSY MAN series THE HUNGRY ONES has an interesting and unique writing style that makes for an exciting read. In THE NIGHTMARE ROOM Sorensen deployed an interwoven timeline that I found enticing. In book two of the series we seen the multiple timeline scenario but we also got something new. There is this theory with time travel that insinuates that any small change done can cause a ripple effect in time, essentially changing the outcome of the future. We see this here in a way as book one changes the outcome of the future. Now readers start book two from the beginning of book one with the characters getting a fresh start with a new lease on life so to speak. It made for a excellent reading experience kind of like a role playing game with multiple outcomes based on the choices your character makes only the readers are not in the driver seat and Sorensen is taking you to some dark new places in his mind.

Man-oh-man, I really liked the characters in book one and its no different in book two. In fact, I enjoyed getting to know the original characters better including the demon Mr. Tell. I really enjoy how the author extends the character development as the series progresses. Now, we also were introduced to some newbies in the cast including Michael Larson who technically comes from THE NIGHTMARE ROOM but here we get to see him in action. Although he is just a young boy, he still overcame great odds to get where he is in book two. I quite enjoyed reading as this curious boy uncovers a great many things a youngster his age has no business witnessing. I feel like this won't be the last we see of the Larson's and I can't wait to read about their next wild and bleak adventure in a world cursed with demons.

Obviously im not about to spill the beans on the ending nor will I spend much time discussing it. I will however say that was thoroughly impressed with an ending that is both VERY entertaining and leads the audience to believe another book in tbe series is inevitable. I like this because i am really digging the series and am in no way ready for it to end. I am incredibly impressed with what Chris Sorensen has done with the MESSY MAN series and am patiently awaiting for another installment. I NEED MORE MR.TELL!

I rated THE HUNGRY ONES by Chris Sorensen 5 / 5 stars. This book is entertaining as hell. Chis Sorensen has a unique writing style that is both cinematic and captivating. I wholeheartedly believe that fans of horror fiction and the supernatural subgenre will follow the Larson family and Mr. Tell to the deepest darkest regions of the underworld and back. Mr. Tell, I call on you to whisper another dark tale. THIS IS YOUR CHARGE, YOU MUST OBEY!

excellent

After reading The Nightmare Room, I was unsure of how they were going to have a second part.
I was pleased surprised to see that this well written sequel fit. made sense, and was damn entertaining. it ended up expanding on the world built in the first one by adding new characters which expanded the rich storytelling options.
a good read and I find myself looking forward to reading the third one to see where that goes.

Too many characters for exact same voice

Part of what first book had going for it was how clear the story line was with 3ish characters from one voice. In this second book. Its just blurry, and not as compelling a plot.
