Publisher's Summary

#1 NEW YORK TIMES BEST SELLER • Investigator Lacy Stoltz follows the trail of a serial killer, and closes in on a shocking suspect—a sitting judge—in “one of the best crime reads of the year.... Bristling with high-tech detail and shivering with suspense.... Worth staying up all night to finish” (Wall Street Journal).

In The Whistler, Lacy Stoltz investigated a corrupt judge who was taking millions in bribes from a crime syndicate. She put the criminals away, but only after being attacked and nearly killed. Three years later, and approaching forty, she is tired of her work for the Florida Board on Judicial Conduct and ready for a change.

Then she meets a mysterious woman who is so frightened she uses a number of aliases. Jeri Crosby’s father was murdered twenty years earlier in a case that remains unsolved and that has grown stone cold. But Jeri has a suspect whom she has become obsessed with and has stalked for two decades. Along the way, she has discovered other victims.

Suspicions are easy enough, but proof seems impossible. The man is brilliant, patient, and always one step ahead of law enforcement. He is the most cunning of all serial killers. He knows forensics, police procedure, and most important: he knows the law.

He is a judge, in Florida—under Lacy’s jurisdiction.

He has a list, with the names of his victims and targets, all unsuspecting people unlucky enough to have crossed his path and wronged him in some way. How can Lacy pursue him, without becoming the next name on his list?

The Judge’s List is by any measure John Grisham’s most surprising, chilling novel yet.

???

I didn’t like the narrator and I’m not sure I even enjoyed the story. Maybe because of Grisham comments at the start of the book that this needed to live up to his previous work with this character. To me it felt awkward. However I kept listening and finished it over a weekend so there is something captivating but I couldn’t say what.

Excellent follow up to the Whistler

The ongoing story of Lacy Stolts has been a joy to read. Hoping that her story continues

Satisfying

I love John Grisham and while this is not his best, it did not disappoint.

Terrible Narration

Thought the storyline was good and enjoyed the book. However the narrator’s voice was dull and flat and never really changed inflection so that I couldn’t tell who was doing the talking. I’ve listened to quite a few books and was always able to tell the characters apart. Really having trouble with this one.

Narrator

I love the story!
However I find that the narrator makes it at time confusing to follow the story.
Reason is tone changes from one chapter to the other. Tone and style is inconsistent throughout the story

story itself is a good one

I liked it. The narration could have been better. was sometimes hard to tell between different characters. Wasn't the worst I have listened to though.

Good thriller.

John Grisham never disappoints. The reader was less stellar. The speakers were hard to differentiate, the inflections hard to fathom and the parade of events unclear.

a very slow start.

Started off really slowly but about 1 third of the way through became interesting and thrilling at the end.

I'm glad I persevered.

Not the Worst, Not the Best.

I almost didn’t purchase this book, due to all the bad reviews, however, it’s not as bad as some people have said.

It’s not Grisham’s best, and while I like the character of Lacy Stoltz, the other female character is a bit much to take at times. So be aware of that.

Like most reviews have said, Mary-Louise Parker narrated this book slowly. I found that if you sped up the book about 1.2 times, the book will be at a more tolerable pace.

Excellent sauf la fin.

Très bonne tension, bien raconter. On dirais que la fin a été fait à la va-vite, mal planifié et nous laissant franchement sur notre faim considérant tout ce qui a été dit sur cet incroyable personnage.
