Publisher's Summary

The Last Emperox is the thrilling conclusion to the award-winning, New York Times and USA Today best-selling Interdependency series, an epic space opera adventure from Hugo Award-winning author John Scalzi.

The collapse of The Flow, the interstellar pathway between the planets of the Interdependency, has accelerated. Entire star systems - and billions of people - are becoming cut off from the rest of human civilization. This collapse was foretold through scientific prediction...and yet, even as the evidence is obvious and insurmountable, many still try to rationalize, delay and profit from, these final days of one of the greatest empires humanity has ever known.

Emperox Grayland II has finally wrested control of her empire from those who oppose her and who deny the reality of this collapse. But "control" is a slippery thing, and even as Grayland strives to save as many of her people form impoverished isolation, the forces opposing her rule will make a final, desperate push to topple her from her throne and power, by any means necessary. Grayland and her thinning list of allies must use every tool at their disposal to save themselves, and all of humanity. And yet it may not be enough.

Will Grayland become the savior of her civilization...or the last emperox to wear the crown?

A satisfying end to the series

While I'm sad the series has ended, this book is a very satisfying end to a really fun series. Everyone gets a good wrap up and no loose ends.

Brilliant end to Series

Some wrote that end ending was rushed. I felt it was precise, tied up all the necessary loose ends and was just as fun to listen to as the rest. Yes I understand it lacks a fairy tale ending but when you reflect it is rather perfect and I would mor change a thing.

Suddenly, a shot rang out…

I did not expect this ending, but I should have. Space operas end happily ever after with interludes of wicked villains chewing up the scenery.

John Scalzi has never written that way.

And this story includes an impending apocalyptic event, which in the traditions of High Fantasy, requires great sacrifice.

This series…

I loved, loved, LOVED, this series! WW is a force to be reckoned with, I cared about the characters, I cried, I laughed, I yelled OUT LOUD. It was great and I am voraciously trying to consume everything else WW narrates because he’s great and JS writes like I think. Perfection and a never miss!

Excellent conclusion with spinoff prospects.

The last 3 chapters felt a bit rushed and also left me wanting more. There was ample foreshadowing to not be truly surprised by anything twisty but it was still a good ending. Wheaton does what I think is a great job working in so many accents to simplify telling the many characters apart.

Excellent story, mediocre performance

I was concerned that the ideas in the first two books couldn't be properly wrapped up by the end of this one, but I was wrong and Scalzi did an excellent job.

great series!

the storyline of this series wraps nicely in this book. I doubt that Scalzi intends to go further but space palace intrigued was a great premise.
