Publisher's Summary

Some doors are locked for a reason....

While 11-year-old Nora Davis was up in her bedroom doing homework, she had no idea her father was killing women in the basement.

Until the day the police arrived at their front door.

Decades later, Nora's father is spending his life behind bars, and Nora is a successful surgeon with a quiet, solitary existence. Nobody knows her father was a notorious serial killer. And she intends to keep it that way.

Then Nora discovers one of her young female patients has been murdered. In the same unique and horrific manner that her father used to kill his victims.

Somebody knows who Nora is. Somebody wants her to take the fall for this unthinkable crime. But she's not a killer like her father. The police can't pin anything on her.

As long as they don't look in her basement.

Great story. Terrible narration

This was a good book. I didn’t think I’d be able to get through it due to the narration, but I did because it was free and I didn’t have my new credit yet. I thought I would have to give up but if you keep listening, you can get somewhat used to the voice. It’s like nails going down a chalk board and the male voices…..I have no words. No offence to the narrator, but this isn’t your path. I feel bad saying that but if I were an author, I’d want to know . Honestly this would put me off of buying any more of freidas books, but I know she’s an amazing author based in other books I’ve read so I know the difference: but if I were a first timer, I’d be turned

Terrible NARRATION

I tried desperately to listen to this book. The story was good. However, I just could not get past the Narrator.
Just AWFUL. I have always enjoyed books by this author. This However was ruined by the Narrator.
Read in a High Pitched voice all the way. Overly dramatic in her voice.
Never have I listened to such a terrible narrator.
Jesus….. it’s like running a marathon and you just could not get the story in your brain . Her voice was so horrible.
It’s very unfortunate that I could not go beyond a few chapters in this book.
A shame since Freida McFadden is a great author. She definitely should pick some-else to narrate in the future.
I am grateful this was included in my Audibles and I am grateful I did not have to use up my Credit to listen to this annoying voice.

The story line was okay. Only read it because it was free with Audible.

The narration is terrible and somewhat painful to listen to. I pushed through because I like the storyline. Not the best written book for sure. Lots of repeats like she thinks the reader will forget details.

Keep This Door Locked

Awful! The narrator is beyond cringy. It's also so frustrating how dumb the lead character is when they are apparently an "esteemed" surgeon! You will hate yourself for putting up with the narrator and listening to the whole damn thing with the hopes that the story would redeem itself. But in the end, the plot twist was so far fetched that it just adds to your disappointment. Don't be a sucker, keep this door locked.

Painful

I’ve listened to hundreds of audiobooks and this narration was unfortunately the worst I’ve heard. The story itself had a good premise but writing seemed immature compared to her other books. Skip this book

Unable to finish this book with the performance.

Firstly, I was not in love with the story line. However, what really sealed the deal was the terrible robotic performance. Her intonation, cadence and stilted reading was grating on my ears. This is the first book ever that I have been unable to finish due to the performance. I am shocked that this reading actually passed the final assessments of this product and got onto the virtual shelves. Avoid this book. Thankfully, this was included, and not a book that I used a credit on.

Enjoyed the story but…

I enjoyed the story—thought the ending was going to be predictable, but nope! However, the narration is incredibly bad.

Great book, terrible narration

The book is worth it, even thought the narrator is terrible. I felt she was screaming at me the whole time and all the characters were angry ☹️. Still, great book!

Couldn’t finish, horrible narration

Story was good, but just couldn’t continue listening. The narration was incredibly bad. I’ll just have to read this one the good, old fashioned way.

Twisty but painfully narrated

As always, McFadden delivers a twisty story. However, her writing style leaves much to be desired. If she ups her writing, she would be in a league of her own. The narration of this book was painful and frustrating. Will not listen to anything else by this narrator.
