Publisher's Summary

"Narrators Bailey Carr, Samantha Desz, and January LaVoy are the perfect trio to narrate Megan Goldin's latest thriller involving a true-crime podcaster and her coverage of a rape trial in a North Carolina town." (AudioFile Magazine)

In The Night Swim, a new thriller from Megan Goldin, author of the “gripping and unforgettable” (Harlen Coben) The Escape Room, a true-crime podcast host covering a controversial trial finds herself drawn deep into a small town’s dark past and a brutal crime that took place there years before.

Ever since her true-crime podcast became an overnight sensation and set an innocent man free, Rachel Krall has become a household name—and the last hope for people seeking justice. But she’s used to being recognized for her voice, not her face. Which makes it all the more unsettling when she finds a note on her car windshield, addressed to her, begging for help.

The new season of Rachel's podcast has brought her to a small town being torn apart by a devastating rape trial. A local golden boy, a swimmer destined for Olympic greatness, has been accused of raping the beloved granddaughter of the police chief. Under pressure to make season three a success, Rachel throws herself into her investigation—but the mysterious letters keep coming. Someone is following her, and she won’t stop until Rachel finds out what happened to her sister 25 years ago. Officially, Jenny Stills tragically drowned, but the letters insist she was murdered—and when Rachel starts asking questions, nobody in town wants to answer. The past and present start to collide as Rachel uncovers startling connections between the two cases—and a revelation that will change the course of the trial and the lives of everyone involved.

Electrifying and propulsive, The Night Swim asks: What is the price of a reputation? Can a small town ever right the wrongs of its past? And what really happened to Jenny?

well done and somewhat though provoking.

The performance was just stellar. The story itself may possibly be loosely based on the California case where a judge gave a minimal slap on the wrist sentence to a rapist because he was a Stanford student (with super rich parents) that has a promising swimming career, and why should HIS life be ruined because of a "few minutes" of bad judgment. The author gets her digs in at a system still mostly calloused toward any women that has to endure a rape then is raped again in the system, and for all but the most hard nosed conservatives, it is a bit thought provoking and eye opening. The story is well crafted and captivating.

good listen

Truly worth listening too since its like a podcast ... don't think you will get the full effect just reading it. Trigger warning all around and will upset you ... but thats why its good i'd say.

solid story from Goldin

solid 4/5.. wasn't as suspenseful as the escape room (in my opinion), but her descriptive writing makes you really feel for the characters and what they're going through. it was pretty painful at times. Goldin is definitely becoming one of my favorite authors.

Buy this

I never write reviews. Like, this is my first. But this book is amazing. Topical, suspenseful, and the narrator is amazing. I read tons of mysteries but this one surprised me at the end.

Pretty good!

Kept my attention. The story was heartbreaking, but well written. The book should come with a trigger warning though, it is about rape and sexual assault. So keep that in mind if that’s a sensitive topic for you, however, it was very respectful and well done.

not great disappointing compared to authors others

narrator did a spectacular job. altho the author did a decent job of not politicizing the story. the plot is extraordinarily predictable as it plays to current social awareness movements. if you want a metoo podcast rape culture who done it, i guess it could be for you. but dont be surprised when you know whats going to happen a third of the way in.

smaller sleepy town requires heroine hot shot outsider to make the town bring their darknesses to light. listened to the entire thing. should have moved on to something else well before the halfway point
