Publisher's Summary

The Arbinger Institute has helped millions with their books Leadership and Self-Deception and The Anatomy of Peace. Their newest book, The Outward Mindset, reflects their latest research and experience and offers a new and intuitive way to teach people how to implement mindset change in themselves and scale it across organizations, with incredible effect.

One's mindset governs how one views the world, what one does, and how one does it. One's mindset can be self-focused, which Arbinger calls an inward mindset, or it can be inclusive of others, which Arbinger calls an outward mindset. It turns out that our own actions, and others responses to those actions, end up being dramatically different depending on which mindset we are operating from.

The Outward Mindset teaches listeners how to shift more fully to an outward mindset and how to help others, even whole organizations, to make that shift - a shift that sparks innovation, increases accountability, and transforms collaboration, engagement, and fulfillment.

Worthwhile

Worthwhile read. This book does indeed have good food for thought, and illustrates concepts clearly. I will adjust my approach.
The narrative style used may have been complemented with some of the current positive psychology research around mindset shift. For those of us trained in the sciences first, narrative alone is less convincing when not backed by actual research. But, overall, worth your time.

Nothing Really New Here

There's not much new here. Many of these 'self help' books are filled with common sense advice. This is no different. Really now .... change your Mindset to direct and change results; Be outward focused; Think about what the customer wants; Listen to what the customer wants. I kept waiting for new insights. There really weren't any. Any book written by an 'Institute' is a brochure for that Institute. This is what this book was about as far as I can see.

Great Lessons to be learned and applied

I've now read three related but separate books by The Arbinger Institute - and all are very well-written (and well narrated on Audible), easy to understand and implement, and, in my opinion, important to put into action. Leadership and Self-Deception: Getting Out of the Box was the first I read, then The Anatomy of Peace: Resolving the Heart of Conflict which actually is a prequel to the first but written after, and now The Outward Mindset ties it together and expands what the lessons are - treating people as people not things, not tasks, and for all of us to be present and to put yourself into their mindset.

Highly recommend this entire series for anyone who comes into contact with human beings regularly :)

Mindset Drives Business & Life Success

A well written book with compelling stories that illustrate the effect of mindset on life and business. Detailed personal and business case studies make the subject real and make the application of the principles clear. It's an eye opener when you honestly review you life decisions in the light of these principles.

Nothing new, nothing noteworthy, forgettable

Very vague and generic. Lack of important details. Chapters were just "filler" for the stories with no real substance.

great story audiobook constantly paused

the story and content was great. However the audiobook itself constantly paused. I deleted and redownloaded the audiobook and still had the same problems. It was a huge distraction in trying to listen to the book.

A must read

The arbinger institute does it again. The third in a trilogy starting with leadership and self deception and anatomy of peace. This book picks up where the others left off. Every organization needs to read this book.

Excellent capstone to a life-changing trilogy!

I read the first two books of the trilogy from Arbinger Institute. Opted for Audible to listen to The Outward Mindset. Great book and can be listened to as a stand-alone. Yet, encourage Audible listeners to consider the others as well. Practical exercises and use of real-life case studies provide both instruction and inspiration. Enjoy!
