À propos de cet audio

Introducing your new crime thriller fix:

Bristol detective DS George Cross, champion of the outsider, the voiceless and the dispossessed. DS George Cross can be rude, difficult and awkward with people. But his unfailing logic and dogged pursuit of the truth means his conviction rate is the best on the force.

An outsider himself, having been diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder, DS Cross is especially drawn to cases concerning the voiceless and the dispossessed. Now, Cross is untangling the truth about a young woman who died three days ago. With no fingerprints, no weapon and no witnesses, the Bristol Crime Unit are ready to close the case.

The coroner rules suicide: the woman had a long history of drug abuse. But her mother is convinced it was murder: her daughter has been clean and sober for over two years.

DS Cross is determined to defy his bosses and re-open the case, even if it costs him his career. Soon he is mired in a labyrinth of potential suspects—but can he solve the case before his superiors shut it down for good?

Just a compelling, intriguing, puzzle of a listen. Started out rather slow, but certainly picked up interest, momentum, and a deeper insight into George and his father’s relationship. A story that doesn’t leave you, narrated so well by Findlay Robertson who gives ea h character their voice, and emotion. Loved this, recommend it highly!

The best of this series!

As this series progresses, it just gets better and better. The actions and motivations of DS Cross, DS Ottey and Alice MacKenzie become more "fleshed out" and more "human" as the series continues and they come to understand one another better. The unravelling of the crimes is fascinating and Cross's unique approach to gathering evidence (to say nothing of his interactions with his father and with others) is so interesting but also so realistic in terms of someone "on the spectrum" but high functioning. I can't wait to start the next book. I also really appreciate how, as he gathers evidence and hard facts, we (the listeners) get to see and perhaps figure out "who done it". In so many detective series (L.J. Ross, M.C. Beaton and even Agatha Christie), the detective's "intuition" and "gut feelings" - things that leave us out of the process - are what leads to the solving of the crime. Not so in these great books!
