Publisher's Summary

In The Plains of Passage, orphaned Ayla and wandering Jondalar search for a place on Earth they can call home

Ayla and Jondalar set out on horseback across the windswept grasslands of Ice Age Europe. To the hunter gatherers of their world - who have never seen tame animals - Ayla and Jondalar appear enigmatic and frightening.

The mystery surrounding the woman, who speaks with a strange accent and talks to animals with their own sounds, is heightened by her control of a large, menacing wolf. The tall, yellow-haired man who rides by her side is also held in awe, not only for the magnificent stallion he commands, but for his skill as an artificer of stone tools, and for the new weapon he devises that makes hunting less perilous.

In the course of their cross-continental odyssey, Ayla and Jondalar encounter both savage enemies and brave friends. Together they learn that the vast and unkown world can be difficult and dangerous, but breathtakingly beautiful and enlightening as well.

What the critics say

"Pure entertainment at its sublime, wholly exhilarating, best." ( Los Angeles Times)
"Thrilling....This magical book is rich in details of all kinds....but it it the depth of the characters' emotional lives....that gives the novel such a stranglehold." ( Cosmopolitan)

Wonderful

This novel, like all the previous ones by this author, is wonderful. I really enjoyed all four and will be starting the next one later today.
Having read more than one these books many years ago, borrowed from my local library, I was over the moon when I saw they could be purchases in audio version, although if I'd seen them in written version first, I would likely have bought that.
I really enjoyed listening to them though. Ms Burr has a beautiful reading voice. It is a peaceful voice, but full of expression and the sometimes subtle nuances carried me back with Aïla in all her tibulations and joys as well as those of her "family".
I woul certainly recommend this author. He writes "history" in such a fascinating way!

What an adventure!

Sandra Burr's narrative brings to life this 4th epic book, as Ayla's journey continues. It is a pleasure to listen to. One just has to loose themselves to the breathtaking landscapes, mesmerizing cultures, wildlife and vegetation of that era..l could go on and on...but one must listen to experience it for themselves!

So sorry this story ended!!

I have been listening to the Earth Children books for a few months now and have thoroughly enjoyed each book and The Plains of Passage was no exception. The reader has a very interesting style that I enjoy immensely as she adds to the story and does not distract the listener at all. I read this series years ago and lived it as much now as then.

Great 4th part to Ayla and Jondalar’s adventure. Though lots of fornications to be had apparently lol. Looking forward to the fifth part
