Description

Great book!!!
I waited a long time for this book to arrive on Audible and it was worth the wait. such an awesome read Jenna really knows how to write character entanglement. I highly recommend reading this book The narration is amazing as well!

Insane Squirrel Thoughts
Second dive into dark fantasy romance for myself, first one I hit the shallow end, this one I was thrilled to be immersed in a deeply-rich detailed world with interesting characters.
First fantasy book that I was able to listen to on audiobook, previous narrators weren't able to keep my attention for more than a half hour.

Was expecting more.
Spoilers ahead. Don’t read if you want to try the book.
I found Tobias to be very annoying. Ok, I get that he doesn’t want to be with Cassima, but he keeps repeating that over and over around a billion times, seeming to forget that by winning he also gets to live, which is kinda essential if he wants to be with this other girl. His strategy seems to be to do the bare minimum required to stay alive, which makes the whole tournament seem like a joke.
Tobias never used his brain to think about the future, about ways to win or what he could do if he was the sovereign, about the other men and the possible ways they’d kill him or he would kill them. His thoughts were all about his girl, and that soon became endlessly frustrating.
Why has nobody killed him yet? Why didn’t he even try to befriend the savior? Why didn’t the powerful men just massacre everybody from the start? I have no idea. Why didn’t Tobias want to win so that he could survive and later look for ways to cheat the system/ set himself free or reform the country. He swore over and over to protect his gf, yet when a competitor found out about their secret, he let the guy go after making threats to torture him if he talked... seriously? Tobias could be killed on the spot for far less reasons and his girlfriend too. He puts himself and her in danger for the sake of...? His humanity? Putting his girlfriend in danger to give this other guy a fair chance to kill him is his idea of humanity?
Now, about the girl... she has qualities, alright, but she never peaked my curiosity. Whenever Tobias picked her over the savior I rolled my eyes... at least the savior is someone we don’t know, at least there’s something about her to discover. The author saying how amazing he feels around his gf does nothing for me. I won’t feel amazing reading about her until she’s actually doing stuff, not just kissing and moaning and telling him about the challenges.
Speaking of, I’m beyond sick of the kissing scenes... When you see people kiss, do you politely ignore them or do you prefer to stare into their mouths? I feel like this book forced me to do the latter, no story-driving elements involved.

This was a great story. It’s not typically the type of book I would buy… although I might have to reconsider. I’ll definitely be purchasing the saviours sister.
Author review:
While I personally have a different writing style that leans towards larger novellas, I think Jenna did a fantastic job with 2 things in particular that kept me going.
1) character development. There were two characters that I absolutely hated and Tobias grew on me.
2) given that romance is something I normally cringe at, it wasn’t ridiculous and the romance felt real without being dragged on for the sake of extending a scene.

Fantastic narration, GREAT story
The narrator was a great choice, I was sucked right into the action and all the characters. This is absolutely one of those books that leaves you wanting more...2nd book? PLEASE!

Excellent Story
Interesting storytelling, Very descriptive.
Loved how the author gradually and very slowly revealed the storyline, could have ended the book sooner. Predictable ending.

I'm in lovvveeee
this book is absolutely amazing, and I can't believe I waited so long to finally listen to it. Jenna is an amazing author and has inspired me to work on my own novel many times. the way the characters of this story behave and interact with eachother is so intriguing, and I couldn't help but love even he antagonists.

Honest review
For overall story I give a 4.5 because some words or phrases feel repetitive, but it’s very easy to push that aside.
Narrator was incredible in many many ways, that being said some moments fell a little flat. I will say though that every character somehow sounds individual which I loved a lot. Also the voice of Leila didn’t quite fit but these are minor details I didn’t notice until I read more and paid close attention to all the little things.
Overall the writing is amazing and the chapters are perfectly timed and clearly thought out. I love how it’s a modern book without technology and the story is still so action packed. As well, I am not the best at picking out secrets and plot twists and the same goes for this one, if you’re quick with those things I think it’s an even field as all the action takes your mind away a bit.
As of writing this I’ve listened to this book I’d say 6 times in the span of a year. I 100% recommend this dark romance novel, and if you’re a writer I also recommend checking out her YouTube channel as its very helpful :)

Great story, AMAZING narrator!!
This is a fun, interesting, fast paced and intense fantasy story that I LOVE!!!!!! I never listen to an audiobook of a book I’ve already read but fell absolutely in love with Nick’s voice, he nailed the ENTIRE thing!!!! I don’t think I’ve ever listened to someone bring a book to life like this!
