Story
With the story of her conversion as a backdrop, Rosaria Butterfield invites us into her home to show us how God can use “radical, ordinary hospitality” to bring the Gospel to our lost friends and neighbors. Such hospitality sees our homes as not our own but as God’s tools for the furtherance of his kingdom as we welcome those who look, think, believe, and act differently from us into our everyday, sometimes messy lives - helping them see what true Christian faith really looks like.

Story
Before you can resolve the issues of our day, you must be able to clarify them. Terms like same-sex marriage, sexual orientation, gender identity, and gay Christian are parts of daily discourse, yet enormous controversy surrounds them. They are the stuff of news headlines and vitriolic social media posts. But they also reflect stirrings of the heart in real people with real questions and concerns.

Story
What can the call to discipleship, the adherence to the word of Jesus, mean today to the businessman, the soldier, the laborer, or the aristocrat? What did Jesus mean to say to us? What is his will for us today? Drawing on the Sermon on the Mount, Dietrich Bonhoeffer answers these timeless questions by providing a seminal reading of the dichotomy between "cheap grace" and "costly grace."

When Craig Cooper and Walker Hayes met, Walker was an alcoholic atheist reeling from the backlash of a failed music career. The two are now close as brothers, choosing to be next-door neighbors, and ripped out the fence between their homes as a testament to the power of the gospel to break down barriers and unite people together in Christ.

Story
If God is holy, then he can’t sin. If God can’t sin, then he can’t sin against you. If he can’t sin against you, shouldn’t that make him the most trustworthy being there is? Best-selling author Jackie Hill Perry, in her much anticipated follow-up to Gay Girl, Good God, helps us find the reason we don’t trust God - we misunderstand his holiness. In Holier Than Thou, Jackie walks us through Scripture, shaking the dust off of “holy” as we’ve come to know it and revealing it for what it really is: good news.

Publisher's Summary
Rosaria, by the standards of many, was living a very good life. She had a tenured position at a large university in a field for which she cared deeply. She owned two homes with her partner, in which they provided hospitality to students and activists that were looking to make a difference in the world. In the community, Rosaria was involved in volunteer work. At the university, she was a respected advisor of students and her department's curriculum. Then, in her late 30's, Rosaria encountered something that turned her world upside down - the idea that Christianity, a religion she had regarded as problematic and sometimes downright damaging, might be right about who God was. That idea seemed to fly in the face of the people and causes that she most loved. What follows is a story of what she describes as a train wreck at the hand of the supernatural. These are her secret thoughts about those events, written as only a reflective English professor could.

A deeply personal account
I enjoyed getting to know Rosaria Champagne Butterfield through her words and voice. She is an articulate storyteller and communicates her journey and philosophy clearly, while also maintaining the complexity of a real-world experience. I found her deeply personal account edifying and enlightening. I was eager to hear and know more. I highly recommend this book to anyone struggling with identity in Christ vs identity in the world.

This book is too short!
I enjoyed the book and narration by the author. The beginning is very similar to a couple of podium lectures video recordings found online but the book gives more context and details. The stories within are very interesting and challenges the readers/listeners to relate to and examine in themselves the complex points of view. This is a book full of intimate thoughts and emotions. Dr. Rosaria Butterfield inspires living wholeheartedly in various parts of the paths in our lives with openness, grace and love. I would love to read more.

Started off okay but could finish
I agree with most of the 1, 2 and 3 star reviews. I made it through 3 chapters and couldn’t finish the fourth.
The first couple of chapters were interesting and had some good content. I like the how Pastor Ken’s approach was caring and curious, and how there were opportunities to lean into learning between the LGBTQ community and the church.
As the book went along however, there were a few uncomfortable moments where she is quite critical of other Christians and any practice of following Jesus that doesn’t follow the RP prescription. (Not to mention that she sings a lengthy Psalm!)
Chapter 4 got into how the Psalms are the only true way to worship because they are the Word of God and all other songs are man made; and a very strong emphasis on their “correct” interpretation of marriage, etc. As she kept going, I just could take anymore of it, I had to turn it off. I won’t be finishing the book.

A Paul Conversion for Our Day
An utterly gripping and undeniably authentic testimony. Extremely relevant for a time when people are questioning whether there are people out there who have genuinely and healthily left their life of same-sex relationships. Rosaria's testimony tells of God's love and powerful and ongoing work in her life - her relationship life, as well as her later life as a pastor's wife and her life as an adoptive parent. Read this and then tell your friends to read it - it will powerfully engage with both believers and skeptics alike. I didn't agree with some of the theology she espouses from her denomination, but this is minor and so it goes with all denominations. I can't stress enough how important this book is for our day.
