Publisher's Summary

Deep below the University, there is a dark place. Few people know of it: a broken web of ancient passageways and abandoned rooms. A young woman lives there, tucked among the sprawling tunnels of the Underthing, snug in the heart of this forgotten place.

Her name is Auri, and she is full of mysteries.

The Slow Regard of Silent Things is a brief, bittersweet glimpse of Auri’s life, a small adventure all her own. At once joyous and haunting, this story offers a chance to see the world through Auri’s eyes. And it gives the listener a chance to learn things that only Auri knows....

In this book, Patrick Rothfuss brings us into the world of one of The Kingkiller Chronicle’s most enigmatic characters. Full of secrets and mysteries, The Slow Regard of Silent Things is the story of a broken girl trying to live in a broken world.

a beautiful glimpse into the underthing

It was so wonderful to hear the author read his own words and give us a glimpse into Auri's world. I loved hearing all the thought, love and adventure that goes into each gift she gives.

Beautiful writing

an absolutely gorgeous masterpiece. I love the poetic playfulness of language and perception in this novella.

Quirky Yet Enjoyable

This is definitely not required reading for the king killer series. But its a nice aside for part of Ari's story. A week in the life of a very mysterious character.

#Audible1

Sweet Simplicity

The sweet, sunny and sometimes sorrowful story of Arie preparing for a visitor. Narrated by the author, whose voice is exactly as I imagine when I read him.

Different for the Slightly Broken

I loved it! Sucked me right in. Favourite part were 8 pages making soap! Thank you for your incredible creativity and for sharing it!

a story that is not a story

Ary is sweet. I like how the story is well written, insightful and a trainwreck. I can't see a story about ary not being cracked and not being unorthodox. except wishing a female voice would narrate the book, excellent

Unusual but refreshingly different. Needs to be read in a quiet space without interruptions.

The author provides a disclaimer at the outset. It certainly helps a lot if one has read his two other books. The character, Auri, is introduced there. As a stand alone book, it might be strange and confusing.
I was disappointed when I saw that this was a short book in comparison to the epic tales that support it. After the 3 hours plus of narration, I was satiated.
I revelled in the glorious descriptions and word pictures. It isn’t often that one finds such colour and texture. Add to that Auri’s secret ways and internal language and you have a wonderfully weird and intense life of a girl in her own world. I loved each and every word. It took me some time to disconnect and return to reality. I believe this haunting story will stay with me for a long time.
