Audible Editor Reviews

The immensely popular Sunday Times’ best-selling author Adele Parks is back with her latest release audiobook, The State We’re In, charmingly narrated by the equally as popular Antonia Beamish. This is a delightful and moving story of two strangers sitting next to each other on a plane who both gain life-changing wisdom from each other as they travel across the Atlantic. This story reminds us of the fateful strangers who pop onto our path, often for the briefest of moments but who ultimately change the course of our lives forever. This story is the perfect holiday listen.

Great suspenseful romance

I originally thought this was going to be a British mystery - my go-to audio book genre. But even though it turned out to be more of a romance, it was well-plotted, humorous at times & not too corny. Well worth a listen!

A Little Too Sappy for Me (No Spoilers)

Unfortunately I put the plot together pretty early. There was some moments that really disappointed me, especially some of the final decisions that seem to contradict the entire story line.

Parks still did well developing the characters, although in the beginning, there were so many introduced during the present and past years, that
I did have to write them down to keep them straight.

Beamish did a pretty good job narrating, however her American accents were hilarious (but so are my British ones, so no points taken off).

Ultimately, it was a little too sappy for my taste, and I wouldn't read it again. But if you love chick flicks and are a romantic, then you may love it.
