Publisher's Summary

Excerpt from Chapter One:

Own Happiness First. One may well ask what a chapter on happiness is doing in a book on time management, let alone right out of the gate in the first chapter. Put to the reader, of what value is time unless one is happy? Once time is managed optimally, happiness on some level should be the end result. But what if it isn't? Similar to documented instances where a cosmetic surgery patient has still found themselves disfigured after a procedure for example, happiness may not be realized for some even after the end has been achieved. This chapter places before the reader the simplest understanding of what it is to be and stay happy, and how reasons have little to do with it.

"Is Happiness Reasonable? Are you one of the many people that have chosen reason-based happiness? Your favorite team won the World Series, your company went public, you got a promotion or a raise, a new car, etc. Yet note how fleeting this happiness based upon a reason is. Many live by the maxim, “I’ll be happy when....” Being consistently happy now, however, can begin very simply without any reason at all. It is not a complex formula that one needs to sit for hours meditating to arrive upon either. One does not necessarily need to see a psychoanalyst to explore the source of one's pain to arrive at a happy state either. It's so easy a child can do it.

Smile. Does this seem overly simplistic or naive? It is simple and based in fact. While some might say they would feel ridiculous walking around all day with a smile on their face, consider for a moment what a mere pleasant look on one's face is comprised of. If one does a little experiment and just thinks of something pleasant, your face will almost automatically respond in kind. This is a great place to start as this mere relaxed and pleasant look is physically the beginnings of a smile and is something you will feel comfortable going about your day with, those facial muscles turned upward in preparation to smile. Soon, this will be how you look, this pleasant countenance.

Now the best part: By maintaining this pleasant appearance, instead of smiling periodically and experiencing temporary elation, you will feel a consistent contentment through your day. Wow, just from a little smile. It gets better. Smiling is a natural pain reliever. That means in turn that smiling affects the health of your entire body.

With this simple act of smiling, you’ll have others at the gym wondering what you are up to. "Wait...did the author actually say act? As if smiling is just an act? Isn’t that a bit fake or insincere?" Though fake it until you make it might seem to be the implication, it goes much deeper than that. Understanding that the conscious act of smiling and the fact that your subconscious mind does not know the difference between a real and imagined experience is the key. The magical aspect of this is that when you smile you will find being sad or disconsolate to be near impossible. When negative thoughts enter your mind, smile and allow them to pass!
