Publisher's Summary

#1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • In a plush Virginia office, a rich, angry old man is furiously rewriting his will. With his death just hours away, Troy Phelan wants to send a message to his children, his ex-wives, and his minions—a message that will touch off a vicious legal battle and transform dozens of lives.

Nate O'Riley is a high-octane Washington litigator who's lived too hard, too fast, for too long. His second marriage in a shambles, and he is emerging from his fourth stay in rehab armed with little more than his fragile sobriety, good intentions, and resilient sense of humor. Returning to the real world is always difficult, but this time it's going to be murder.

Rachel Lane is a young woman who chose to give her life to God, who walked away from the modern world with all its strivings and trappings and encumbrances, and went to live and work with a primitive tribe of Indians in the deepest jungles of Brazil.

In a story that mixes legal suspense with a remarkable adventure, their lives are forever altered by the startling secret of The Testament.

What the critics say

"Grisham's smart use of the suspense novel to explore questions of being and faith puts him squarely in the footsteps of Dickens and Graham Greene." (Publishers Weekly)

A well-crafted Grisham novel

Fascinating from beginning to end. The depth, complexity and variety of the characters was particularly engrossing.

The subject of a sermon

This is amazing! Our local minister used this book as inspiration for his sermon on Easter Friday. Thank you John Grissom. Ross Traverse traversegardens@nf.aibn.com

I loved it from A-Z

The narrator is incredible, the story is great and makes you do a little introspection that everybody should have to do at some point in their lives. I wish I would find another book as interesting and captivating as this one.

A top 5 John Grisham

Thoroughly enjoyed and would recommend to any adult. The spiritual aspects of the story were a joy and not something often found in popular fiction.

Another exciting work of legal fiction

Story, characters and legal aspects were excellent. Whispering and breathless narration was annoying. Overall well worth reading and listening.

A Stunner!

As a Christian this book moved me to tears and as I sit here with tears streaming down, I must say that the story was incredible, the characters, or most, were captivating and the ending will remain with me for a very long time. Thank you so much!

Hard to get through this one …

I am big fan of Grisham novels but this one was slow to develop and not usual excitement in the story. Good ending… kept waiting for the good part
