About this listen
WINNER OF THE BOOKER PRIZE
LONGLISTED FOR THE SCOTIABANK GILLER PRIZE
INTERNATIONAL BESTSELLER
Margaret Atwood's dystopian masterpiece, The Handmaid's Tale, has become a modern classic—and now she brings the iconic story to a dramatic conclusion in this riveting sequel.
More than fifteen years after the events of The Handmaid's Tale, the theocratic regime of the Republic of Gilead maintains its grip on power, but there are signs it is beginning to rot from within. At this crucial moment, the lives of three radically different women converge, with potentially explosive results.
Two have grown up as part of the first generation to come of age in the new order. The testimonies of these two young women are joined by a third voice: a woman who wields power through the ruthless accumulation and deployment of secrets.
As Atwood unfolds The Testaments, she opens up the innermost workings of Gilead as each woman is forced to come to terms with who she is, and how far she will go for what she believes.
"The literary event of the year." —The Guardian

Enthralling
I watched the series on TV and this book continues where season 2 left off. The narration is superb! It's such a treat having a full cast to narrate including the same Aunt Lydia voice as on TV. Thoroughly enjoyable. I like how it's all wrapped up completely in the end.

Worth the wait
The voices of the three narrators were exactly what I hoped for and expected for this novel. The book answered the questions any reader of The Handmaids Tale had thought about for decades. The book is just as haunting as the first and in today's political context is more relevant than ever.

Amazing
Albeit long, I was sad it ended. Having the story told from 3 perspectives was unique and held my attention. I loved that it was narrated by an actor from the show! Using actors in general was so great. Kudos to Margaret Atwood for constructing the story 35 years later but still be relevant to the world today. Wonderfully crafted.

Book Club choice
I read The Handmaiden”s Tale when I was in high school. I started an online book club and The Testaments was the March book. I reread The Handmaiden”s Tale to tell familiarize myself with the story. I have to admit as I started to read The Testaments I found it hard to keep going. I turned to Audible and decided to listen to the rest of it instead. I became totally engrossed into the novel. I really wanted to make all the connections from The Handmaid’s Tale to the characters in The Testaments. I really wanted to find out what happened. I became invested. I enjoyed the book and am happy with the choice to include it in my book club. I’ve always thought highly of Margaret Atwood’s writing. The performances of the readers for this novel were excellent.

Couldn’t put it down.
Like novels in my past that grabbed me at the get go to the point that I had to keep reading “just one more chapter” (followed by another and another), I couldn’t stop listening to The Testaments. I suspect I’ll listen again for artifacts overlooked on my first “read”.
Loved how the story threaded together with The Hand Maid’s Tale novel and Hulu TV program. Wasn’t sure how you could manage that Ms. Atwood, but you did.

Worthy Successor by Stellar Cast
The Testaments is a worthy successor to The Handmaid's Tale, shedding light on the lives of the Aunts as well as the wives and daughters of the Gilead elite.
I am glad to have purchased the audiobook version. Given that Ann Dowd's performances on the television series no doubt inspired her starring role in the novel, it was lovely to have the actor read Aunt Lydia's testimony.
In the earlier portion of the novel, I couldn't find Aunt Lydia's backstory quite credible (a former judge becoming the architect of the servitude of her sex) but the ending made up for it, I think. Atwood brought these seemingly disparate stories together masterfully.

Great version, exciting continuation of the story.
I love it when audiobooks have different actors reading different parts. Such a great read.
