Publisher's Summary

In this gripping follow-up to his Edgar Award-nominated mystery, The Deep, Deep Snow, Brian Freeman tells the story of Rebecca Colder, a young sheriff’s deputy who faces the most excruciating choice a mother can make.

I know you’ll never forgive me for what I did. I’m sure you’ve asked yourself that question many times over the years.

Why? Why did I do it?

Well, sweetheart, this is the answer.

I was only 26 years old when the monster came back to Black Wolf County. The answers you want begin at Christmas time that year. However, if you really want to understand everything that happened to me - to us - you have to go even further back in my life.

Years back, to the night I met the Ursulina face to face.

So let’s start there.

Amazing!

Both the story and the narrator were on point. I’m not sure which was released first but I had previously listened to the Deep Deep Snow and these stories fit together perfectly for me. Highly recommend!

Riveting!

I loved this book so much. I listen to audiobooks while driving, and this story was just so compelling. Rebecca’s story is heart wrenching and all I wanted to do was protect her. I’m off to see if there’s another instalment in this series!

Great answer to the first book!

Loved the first book! This answers most questions from the first book and fills in more information and character development. I don’t like the scenes of abuse in the story at all. But, overall it is a great book. I hope they make a 3rd.

Spellbound!

I listen to this book in a day. I was spellbound by the story and the narration. This backstory really round it out the series. Loved it.

Improbable

The Deep, Deep Snow had everything I like in a mystery/thriller. I can’t say the same for The Ursulina. It was a choppy narrative with poorly developed characters and altogether too many words. The main character was unlikable. Without giving anything away, the ending was unbelievable. There was no way the the murderer would not have been revealed by even rudimentary forensics.

The narrator carried the book. Without her excellent performance, I would most likely have quit this book.
