Publisher's Summary

A groundbreaking mind-body protocol to heal chronic pain, backed by new research.

Chronic pain is an epidemic. Fifty million Americans struggle with back pain, headaches, or some other pain that resists all treatment. Desperate pain sufferers are told again and again that there is no cure for chronic pain.

Alan Gordon, a psychotherapist and the founder of the Pain Psychology Center in Los Angeles, was in grad school when he started experiencing chronic pain, and it completely derailed his life. He saw multiple doctors and received many diagnoses, but none of the medical treatments helped. Frustrated with conventional pain management, he developed Pain Reprocessing Therapy (PRT), a mind-body protocol that eliminated his own chronic pain and has transformed the lives of thousands of his patients. PRT is rooted in neuroscience, which has shown that while chronic pain feels like it's coming from the body, in most cases it's generated by misfiring pain circuits in the brain. PRT is a system of psychological techniques that rewires the brain to break out of the cycle of chronic pain.

The University of Colorado Boulder recently conducted a large randomized controlled study on PRT, and the results are remarkable. By the end of the study, the majority of patients were pain-free or nearly pain-free. What's more, these dramatic changes held up over time. The Way Out brings PRT to listeners. It combines accessible science with a concrete, step-by-step plan to teach sufferers how to heal their own chronic pain.

This book started my journey to recovery.

Amazing. Even though I had read Dr sarnos book years ago it did nothing for me (this book is based on sarnos work).

After a pain related breakdown I was gifted this book and it started my journey to serious recovery. I could relate so well to it I was in tears as I listened to it.

The book isn't a miracle, I had to put in hours of work but this book and alan Gordon's mobile app and work on YouTube gave me a roadmap. Finally something to work with.

Now in about 8 months I'm seriously improved from 20 years of pain that held me back from life and was spreading just as described in the book. I felt like a paraplegic because I couldn't use my limbs and do the things I loved without pain. I'm a new man, going on 40 and fitter than ever and moving more each day.

Hope!

This book has given me hope. An explanation. And a deeper understanding of what I haven’t had a name for since March 7, 2004. Chronic pain = Neuroplastic pain. Little bugger. And it makes such sense as it’s worded in these pages. The John Sarno book was an appetizer for this one. People don’t realize the power of the body/mind connection. Mind blowing. Let’s hope this works! 🙏🤞💪

life-changing information and easy to absorb

Loved this book through and through from front to back. It is a powerful and empowering information to have. The narrator does a great job of making it enjoyable to listen to with the anecdotal stories and humor. I cannot wait to share this information with my massage clients and help them to find a better understanding about their nervous systems. I'm definitely going to be getting the hard copy to study this book more thoroughly. It truly is a life-changing book

Clear, humourous and important

As a psychotherapist battling my own chronic pain and health concerns, this book was one of the best I've read recently. The presenting premise is simple and clearly explained, the author is very easy and comforting to listen to, and I appreciate how current this research is. Highly recommend, even to just entertain a new idea towards pain management and mind-body compassion.

Journey to Recovery: A Transformative Audiobook

This audiobook is the first I have found on the topic of mind-body approach, and I haven’t been disappointed! It has been a major guide of light on my road to recovery. Many words resonated with me deeply, as if the author had looked into my soul and articulated my thoughts and feelings.

Listening to it require not just an open mind but also focused attention, as each bit of knowledge contained within it felt like a key to unlocking a better understanding of myself and my journey. The narration was captivating, drawing me in and keeping me engaged throughout.

If you're on a similar path to recovery, I highly recommend immersing yourself in this audiobook. It's not just a source of information; it's a tool for transformation.
Make sure to also delve into Dr. Sarno's books, which serve as a foundational reference throughout this audiobook.

Keep an open mind, focus on the wisdom shared, and LET THE KNOWLEDGE BE THE CURE YOU’VE BEEN SEEKING. Good luck <3

Chronic pain is finally curable

This book and the Curable App, have changed the way I approach my chronic pain. I am finally improving in my recovery after several years. This has not only made a huge impact on me but also will change the way I practice professionally. As an Occupational Therapist, Psychotherapist, I look forward to implementing this with certain chronic pain clients that may meet criteria for neuroplastic pain. Truly a great read, and accessible to everyday folks outside of the health system. Bravo 👏🏽
