Publisher's Summary

Number-one New York Times Best Seller - soon to be a major motion picture starring Amy Adams, Julianne Moore, and Gary Oldman

"Astounding. Thrilling. Amazing." (Gillian Flynn)

"Unputdownable." (Stephen King)

"A dark, twisty confection." (Ruth Ware)

"Absolutely gripping." (Louise Penny)

For listeners of Gillian Flynn and Tana French comes one of the decade's most anticipated debuts, to be published in 36 languages around the world and already in development as a major film from Fox: A twisty, powerful Hitchcockian thriller about an agoraphobic woman who believes she witnessed a crime in a neighboring house.

It isn't paranoia if it's really happening....

Anna Fox lives alone - a recluse in her New York City home, unable to venture outside. She spends her day drinking wine (maybe too much), watching old movies, recalling happier times...and spying on her neighbors.

Then the Russells move into the house across the way: a father, mother, their teenaged son. The perfect family. But when Anna, gazing out her window one night, sees something she shouldn't, her world begins to crumble. And its shocking secrets are laid bare.

What is real? What is imagined? Who is in danger? Who is in control? In this diabolically gripping thriller, no one - and nothing - is what it seems.

Twisty and powerful, ingenious and moving, The Woman in the Window is a smart, sophisticated novel of psychological suspense that recalls the best of Hitchcock.

Bonus: Includes an interview with author A. J. Finn.

Hysterical and Grating

As a woman I’m offended by the stereotypes presented in the book. Main character is unsympathetic, more just pathetic. The narrator was terrible and overly dramatic and her portrayal was grating on my nerves. Returned the book.

Helpless, hysterical and simpleminded woman trapped in a house

I suppose the title says if all. A woman suffering from alcoholism, depression and anxiety disorders decides spies on the neighbourhood. Agoraphobia is being presented strictly as being unable to leave the confines of your home. A psychologist that can't help herself in any way. I wish her self destructive behaviour was explored a bit more passed the, oh no a problem or provoking thought, better have some Merlot and mix it with a bunch of pills. I don't see her being a very smart woman but I don't think you are capable of seeing that in the mind of a frantic alcoholic and drug abusers.
The twists didn't surprise me as I feel like they were pretty obvious. The book almost seem more fitted as a movie. If it wasn't an audiobook I probably wouldn't have finished it.

Goof story. Horrible narration.

The story is rather interesting. A good psychological thriller, with greats elements to it.

However, the narration is terrible. The lady who’s narrating it is really hard to listen to- everything is being described as if she’s sobbing. High pitched pleading tone, which I could barely tolerate. Ugh!

The narrator makes this one a challenge

There is an earlier review titled "Hysterical and grating" and I couldn't agree more. The main character has her issues, but the narrator really makes her even more unsympathetic and irritating. The story itself was decent, and is the only reason I didn't return the book. However, the narrator really made it hard to want to come back for a listen. I strongly encourage you to preview the book before buying. Maybe buy a hard copy instead.

Captivating-

Finn perfectly captured my interest with a fantastic portrayal of characters, and submersing me in ambient detail; and let me tell you, I did NOT see that ending coming. One thing I unfortunately could not get past (the reason I gave 4 instead of 5 stars) was the way the police had reacted. Was very thin line, and I could not see any type of law enforcement reacting the way they did.
Other than that, and amazing read! I look forward to reading more from A J Finn.

Like nails on a blackboard

Narrator’s voice grates as she tries to navigate the horrendous, artless and childlike prose. “I gasped. He gasped”. “I walked. I saw.” Excruciatingly long. I can’t stand annoying, stupid and bumbling heroines, especially written by male authors. Very overrated.

Found my hand covering my mouth at the twist

The story... was wow.. the narrator did a really good job at getting me to feel the emotions by all the characters. I would definitely read other books by A.J. Finn a.k.a Dan Mallory and I would most definitely hear any other book narrated by Ann Marie Lee. I hope they make the movie version AT LEAST decent enough to capture all the details. I usually listen to audiobooks while driving and there were many days I just had to continue listening even though I arrived at my destinations. Thank you for a good story and thank you Ann Marie for reading it to me :)

Boring and too Drawn out

This story was BORING and it dragged on and on. I patiently listened and hoped the storyline would pick up, but sadly it didn’t. By the time the “mystery” is revealed, you no longer care. I wouldn’t recommend it.

Oh my god

First of all the narrator have made this book an amazing experience
The book itself is smartly written and I enjoyed it a lot. That been said I heard people comparing it to the girl on the train and I haven’t red that yet and I don’t get why people upset if it’s similar to another book. Let’s face it it’s a smartly written book with a beautiful language the tropes for thriller novels are similar to each other so of course there will be comparison but with all fairness please read this book it has amazing twists at the end that I didn’t see coming and it really grabbed my attention all along you won’t regret
