Publisher's Summary

Do you believe in magic? Caroline, Charles and Charlotte do, and nothing that happens during their summer holiday at their great uncle's house does anything to diminish that belief. There the Three C.'s find a wonderful garden and some very old books, resulting in escapades which do not necessarily please the grown-ups. E. Nesbit, as usual, transports us back to the hazy summer days of a well-to-do Edwardian childhood, liberally spiced with magic, humour and lessons learned. As Gore Vidal once wrote: "...though a reading of E. Nesbit is hardly going to change the pattern of a nation, there is some evidence that the child who reads her will never be quite the same again, and that is probably a good thing."

Published more than 100 years ago, this is one of Nesbit's least-known children's books, out of print for many years but now it is finally back

YES!😋☺️😊😘😍

I loved the narrator. The story was amazing!! but I would recommend it to people who love chilling adventures.

I loved the story but I will say it is kind of scary at times so I don't think it is for kids under the age of 3.

Not so much

I have loved other books by his author but this was just creepily filled with witchcraft. No thanks. I won’t send it to my granddaughters as I had intended.

I Adored it!

Oh, how I enjoyed this book and the narrator! Will look for more from both.Very reminiscent of C.S. Lewis in writing style. Love how she writes from the children's viewpoint. Yes they are naive, but their feelings are just as valid as those of an adult. It's exactly the way I remember being a child. And Claire Walsh's narrating was every bit as good as Maggie Smith as an actress! The subject matter was wonderful as well, filled with the meaning of flowers, and what magic can happen with good intentions!
