Publisher's Summary

Jack Ryan, Jr. is out to avenge the murder of an old friend, but the vein of evil he's tapped into may run too deep for him to handle in the latest electric entry in the number one New York Times best-selling series.

While on vacation in Barcelona, Jack Ryan, Jr. is surprised to run into an old friend at a small café. A first, Renee Moore seems surprised to see Jack, but then she just seems irritated and distracted. After making plans to meet later, Jack leaves, only to miss the opportunity to ever speak to Renee again, as the café is destroyed minutes later by a suicide bomber. A desperate Jack plunges back into the ruins to save his friend, but it's too late. As she dies in his arms, she utters one word, Sammler.

When the police show up, they are initially suspicious of Jack until they are called off by a member of the Spanish Intelligence Service. This mysterious sequence of events sends the young Campus operative on an unrelenting search to find out the reason behind Renee's death. Along the way, he discovers that his old friend had secrets of her own - and some of them may have gotten her killed.

Jack has never backed down from a challenge, but some prey may be too big for one man.

Not the best in the series

It may just be me but lately the author is portraying Jack Jr as a whiny teenager! ANY operator would respect the chain of command. When in a foreign country that operator would not act like a petulant child in the face of authority. I’m getting tired of this series very quickly. I don’t feel like the storyline is going anywhere. Thankfully, Brick makes the very predictable story bearable!

Mike Maden is the worst

The Last Ryanverse book I buy written by Mike Maden, weak story, weak character usage and compared Mark Greaney and Marc Cameron this is a let down. Maden barely does a handshake with the previous books, you can skip over it and figure it out quickly,

Just so so

Not sure what to say. It’s a not too bad book. Scott Brick always makes a book better. I’ve struggled a lot with the Tom Clancy books since Tom hasn’t been writing. I’ve read or listened to every Jack Ryan and or John Clark book and the quality isn’t there that used to be. This isn’t the worst one tho. Tom used to write with an deep in depth style, (but easy to follow) that kept you on the edge. These other (authors) just don’t have that quality.
For what it’s worth.

far cry from Clancy

Depicts Ryan as an authoritarian, non fiction factual errors, the author juggles 5 ball which tells me he thinks he is smarter than all those that read, arrogance. Pass
