Publisher's Summary

"Many spiritual traditions have described our everyday level of consciousness as a kind of dreamlike state—which for many of us feels like a nightmare we can't seem to escape.

Awakening from this dream, explains Eckhart Tolle, starts by coming into a new relationship to the present moment—and discovering who we are beneath the noisy surface of our lives. Recorded at Riverside Church in New York City, Transcending the Ego offers Eckhart's helpful pointers for realizing what he calls our "being nature"—our deeper identity beyond the personal sense of self.

Eckhart begins by describing the suffering inherent in the pursuit of "egoic fulfillment" and how turning to the mind rarely, if ever, produces inspired solutions. In this foundational talk, he shares guidance on remaining rooted in presence as we meet the challenges of our lives, discussing:

  • A simple practice for embracing internally "the things that happen"
  • The universal longing to be ourselves fully
  • The illusory "I" and the timeless "I"
  • Openness to life and the power of allowing
  • Stillness and intuitive knowing

"When we relinquish resistance to the present moment, we become the space for whatever arises," teaches Eckhart. Transcending the Ego brings us his insights for the continuous practice of bringing presence into daily life, and exploring the peace and freedom of being.

Don't waste your credit/money!

This audiobook is pretty much a repeat, if you are familiar with Tolle's teachings.
I am enjoying and learning much more from the: Your Are Not Your Brain, and The Winner's Brain, also just got: Making A Good Brain Great, looks promising. Too bad audible doesn't have yet an audio version of Dr. John B. Arden's Rewire Your Brain, this book is FANTASTIC, I've learned so much from it. Give it a try, you won't regret it!

Thanks.

A serious must listen

This transcendent beautiful talk goes very deeply into the simple and profound truth of being, stillness and presence. A masterpiece delivered from the profound depth of Eckhart's heart, that place of silence. Simply a beautiful transmission that can be a door into the depth of Being. One can only be sincerely grateful to be sharing this Now with Eckhart Tolle.

Not for anyone who hasn't followed the author

Any additional comments?

If you haven't read the Power of now and the new earth you will feel lost. If you have, it's a good listen, but not my favorite.

just what I needed

ego has been running rampant in me but I have understood it to be leading me to an understanding of things. I'm so thankful for people like Ekhart to share what is. I have nothing to complain about.

No Thing.

In the end you realize he has told you nothing, and also everything all at once and therefore a wonderful pointer. Simply nothing to think about. And we begin.

Fantastic

If you like Alan Watts, Deepak Chopra, Ram Dass, Jiddu Krishnamurti, they all allude to an awareness beneath that connects us and everything. This has some practical advice in it. I hear something a little different in all of them but I like Tolle’s delivery a lot. His delivery makes subtle points then round back upon themselves. It’s great

Okay

This title talks about the issue of the mind and the ego as your thinking processes.

It is ok, has little pearls in it.
