Publisher's Summary

Tim Ferriss, the number-one New York Times best-selling author of The 4-Hour Workweek, shares the ultimate choose-your-own-adventure book - a compilation of tools, tactics, and habits from 130+ of the world's top performers. From iconic entrepreneurs to elite athletes, from artists to billionaire investors, their short profiles can help you answer life's most challenging questions, achieve extraordinary results, and transform your life.

From the author:

In 2017, several of my close friends died in rapid succession. It was a very hard year, as it was for many people.

It was also a stark reminder that time is our scarcest, non-renewable resource.

With a renewed sense of urgency, I began asking myself many questions:

  • Were my goals my own, or simply what I thought I should want?
  • How much of life had I missed from underplanning or overplanning?
  • How could I be kinder to myself?
  • How could I better say “no” to the trivial many to better say “yes” to the critical few?
  • How could I best reassess my priorities and my purpose in this world?

To find answers, I reached out to the most impressive world-class performers in the world, ranging from wunderkinds in their 20s to icons in their 70s and 80s. No stone was left unturned.

This book contains their answers - practical and tactical advice from mentors who have found solutions. Whether you want to 10x your results, get unstuck, or reinvent yourself, someone else has traveled a similar path and taken notes.

This book, Tribe of Mentors, includes many of the people I grew up viewing as idols or demi-gods. Less than 10% have been on my podcast (The Tim Ferriss Show, more than 200 million downloads), making this a brand-new playbook of playbooks.

No matter your challenge or opportunity, something in this audiobook can help.

Among other things, you will learn:

  • More than 50 morning routines - both for the early riser and those who struggle to get out of bed.
  • How TED curator Chris Anderson realized that the best way to get things done is to let go.
  • The best purchases of $100 or less (you'll never have to think about the right gift again).
  • How to overcome failure and bounce back towards success.
  • Why Humans of New York creator Brandon Stanton believes that the best art will always be the riskiest.
  • How to meditate and be more mindful (and not just for those that find it easy).
  • Why tennis champion Maria Sharapova believe that “losing makes you think in ways victories can’t.”
  • How to truly achieve work-life balance (and why most people tell you it isn’t realistic).
  • How billionaire Facebook co-founder Dustin Moskovitz transformed the way he engages with difficult situations to reduce suffering.
  • Ways to thrive (and survive) the overwhelming amount of information you process every day.
  • How to achieve clarity on your purpose and assess your priorities.
  • And much more.

This reference book, which I wrote for myself, has already changed my life. I certainly hope the same for you.

I wish you luck as you forge your own path.

All the best,
Tim Ferriss

Very insightful.. with elements of cliché

Learned a lot. About 12 well worth listening to. Way too many anti-sugar/silicone valley hipster "hackers" in there. Gretchen Rubin is a constant disappointment to be honest.

a cash grab

this was really disappointing. I found many of the answers the same for different people, which makes me think ferris looked for like minded people to reach out to. maybe I've read too many books but there wasnt anything of value in this book.

Just threw together

no real direction or curation, feels like the uneaten bits of a previous meal that were put together

You won’t like this whole book

This book is a compilation of the advice of a ton of different experts, celebrities, athletes, and successful people with different life experiences. Much of it (as Tim acknowledges) you won’t find very applicable to your life. I decided to just listen to one chapter (they’re quite short) per day and read my other books alongside this. I treated this as a sort of mindset vitamin and listened over the course of many months. I will say that the passages that resonated with me made the whole book worth reading. If even a few of these experts give you a tiny nugget of truly valuable wisdom, then why not give it a shot? Truly impactful wisdom is supposed to be hard to come by, and I can confidently say everyone will find SOME valuable takeaway. Thanks Tim for this cool compilation and access to such an eclectic collection of minds

that ending though

so I've listened to this cover to cover, and not all of the advice reached me, but the 20% of it that did is already changing my life. trust me. listen to the whole thing. you don't know which parts will stick, and which ones won't. but that ending hit me on a different level!

Great Advice, Somewhat Recycled

Tim Ferriss is a great marketer and business man, and that really comes across with this book not necessarily in the advice offered but in the fact that the content was taken from his podcast, used in his book Tools of Titans, and dissected further into Tribe of Mentors. It doesn't take away from the advice offered and the list of experts interviewed is still very impressive, but I listened to Tools of Titans directly before starting this book so I couldn't help but notice that I was listening to the exact same content recycled again. But the guy is very successful for a reason and making money off of the same content over and over is a good game plan that I suppose is a good lesson for listeners. Technically he didn't even write the book, he just asked the questions and used his access to successful people to create a podcast and at least 2 books.

The book sticks to the same 11 questions, and there is so much great advice given, especially the questions of "what is one purchase of $100 or less that has had the biggest impact on your life". I kept notes on a lot of these things and have a ton of good ideas on small, affordable upgrades to my lifestyle. If I had to choose this book or Tools of Titans I would honestly just go with Tools of Titans because it's longer, has a ton of the same content and the questions aren't as limited. 12 hours into this book I was zoning out a bit and overall I found Tools of Titans to be a better listen. But you can't go wrong with either and I would listen to them both again.
