The Night Lords were once among the most potent forces of the Imperium, Space Marines who used fear itself as their weapon. Now, cast adrift from the Emperor's light and hunted as heretics after their monstrous betrayal, the Night Lords clad themselves in symbols of death and fight the Long War, bringing pain and terror to all who worship the corpse-god of Terra. A summons from Warmaster Abaddon sends these rebels on a dangerous journey that leads inexorably to a conflict with the Emperor's chosen warriors, the Blood Angels.

Before the being called the Emperor revealed himself, before the rise of the aeldari, before the necrontyr traded their flesh for immortal metal, the world was born in violence. Even when they inhabited bodies of flesh, Trazyn the Infinite and Orikan the Diviner were polar opposites. Trazyn, a collector of historical oddities, presides over a gallery full of the most dangerous artefacts - and people - of the galactic past. Orikan, a chronomancer without peer, draws zodiacs that predict and manipulate the future.

Description
A Gotrek Gurnisson novel.
When Felix Jaeger, a student, poet and minor political agitator, swears a drunken oath to a half-mad dwarf, it changes his life. Adventure awaits, as Felix records the mighty deeds of Gotrek Gurnisson, Trollslayer.
Listen to It Because: This collection of stories is where the saga of Gotrek began. Mutants in the forest, goblins in the mountains, a troll beneath the world - from these small beginnings came the greatest partnership in the Old World and a hero who has crossed realities and become a legend.
The Story: Gotrek and Felix: unsung heroes of the Empire or nothing more than common thieves and murderers? The truth perhaps lies somewhere in between and depends entirely upon whom you ask....
After fleeing the authorities in the Imperial city of Altdorf, Felix Jaeger swears a drunken oath to dour dwarf Gotrek Gurnisson to record his death saga. In the cold light of day, Felix's worst fears are confirmed as he learns that Gotrek is a Trollslayer - a dwarf doomed to seek out a heroic death in battle to atone for an unknown personal disgrace. Their travels throw them into a string of extraordinary adventures as Felix tries to survive his companion's destiny.
Written by William King. Narrated by Jonathan Keeble.

The performance makes this one
Loved this book. Some great sword and sorcery action with fun characters. The narration really elevates this one above and beyond though. Definitely recommend this to anyone who likes high octane action in their fantasy.

It has great reviews for a reason!!
I basically ran out of Warhammer 40K books and this was my first real foray into Warhammer fantasy. I’ve known about the Trollslayer for over a decade so I thought I’d give it a try. Great stories, great characters and awesome narration as usual from Jonathan Keeble. Now I’m on to the next instalment.
Great stuff!!

A nice collection of short stories
It wasn't really what I was expecting. Think of the book as a collection of short stories with very thin connecting elements (aside from the two main characters!).
Each chapter reveals something new about their backstory and relationship which is cool, but the story changes all the time.
If you're interested in Warhammer Fantasy its definitely worth a listen, tonnes of detail and cannon and the narrator does a great job at setting the scene.

not bad
Pretty good, better then expected really as I went in looking for info on the warhammer races and not really expecting a decent set of adventure stories. Two things hold it back for me. By chapter 4 I was pretty tired of Felix thinking every fight would be his death and starting from about the same story the lack of conclusion to stories is frustrating.
Minor spoilers kinda but not really. After completing the main goal such as finishing a boss or even b4 that the stories end without the usual wrap up conversation or much of anything really. Best example of this is the last story buddy wins, his companion shows up with a hostage and we have no clue what happens to her as it ends there. Chapter 4 has a main bad dude who's end would have been satisfying to read about and its not even covered as the story ends prior to the confrontation with the outcome glossed over in a monologue starting the next chapter. I should mention that every chapter is a separate adventure in Felix's journey told chronologically. Worth picking up if your into warhammer.

AMAZING!!
Narrator and story and style are top notch. Reminds me of the Witcher. It’s a lot like a mini series. Each chapter telling a short story of a monster they hunt. So an overall story arch with twists won’t be found. But this makes a great listen. Already bought the next 4 audio books. Narrator really makes it come alive. Literally bought the next 10 books just based on this one.

A thoroughly enjoyable short story collection
As my first Warhammer book, it certainly did a good job selling the world. Gotrek and Felix are enjoyable enough protagonists, Gotrek especially has good moments where it really comes across that he's not human.
The thing is... if I did not have an interest in the world of Warhammer Fantasy, I'm not sure how compelling a book I would find it. The stories are good, great in places... but nothing exceptional, and looses steam greatly after the fifth one (which either should have been where the book ended (on a strong note) or the sixth and seventh stories should have been moved to before the fifth). the narration as well, is solid but nothing exceptional, and I swear he repeats the same voice for more than half the women.
Don't get me wrong, I enjoy the stories, enough to understand why this book got a sequel or two but not a dozen or more.
if I could, I'd give this book 3.5s across the board. better than good, but not reaching greatness, however, absent the ability to do a .5, I think I'll defer to how enjoyable the best of the stories were and lean towards 4s.

Basically Perfect
If youre like me, A fan of TWW, Vermintide been interested in getting into the books/deeper lore but it seemed quite intimidating...
Have no fear
Gotrek is here, to slay them (& Felix too!)
The narration is actually godlike. One of the absolute best I've ever had the pleasure of listening to... maybe even the best, personally.
I'm usually reluctant to spend credits on books under 10hrs, but these 9+ hrs are easily worth 2. If there wasn't 13 more of these waiting for me I'd immediately listen to this one again.
The highest tier of aduibook.

Favourite Series!
This is my absolute favourite series of books, and I've wanted to reread them for some time, but just don't have the hours in a day anymore to do so! Enter, Jonathan Keeble. Keeble's voice acting really does help to immerse you in the world! I find myself more enthralled than when I first read the series! I recommend these books to anyone who loves adventure, and Warhammer lore!
