Publisher's Summary

The "must-read YA thriller" (Bustle) from #1 New York Times bestselling author of One of Us Is Lying about a small town with deadly secrets.

"When it comes to YA suspense, Karen M. McManus is in a league of her own..."—Entertainment Weekly

Echo Ridge is small-town America. Ellery's never been there, but she's heard all about it. Her aunt went missing there at age seventeen. And only five years ago, a homecoming queen put the town on the map when she was killed. Now Ellery has to move there to live with a grandmother she barely knows.

The town is picture-perfect, but it's hiding secrets. And before school even begins for Ellery, someone has declared open season on homecoming, promising to make it as dangerous as it was five years ago. Then, almost as if to prove it, another girl goes missing.

Ellery knows all about secrets. Her mother has them; her grandmother does too. And the longer she's in Echo Ridge, the clearer it becomes that everyone there is hiding something. The thing is, secrets are dangerous—and most people aren't good at keeping them. Which is why in Echo Ridge, it's safest to keep your secrets to yourself.

Fans of the hit thriller that started it all can watch the secrets of the Bayview Four be revealed in the One of Us is Lying TV series now streaming on NBC's Peacock!

What the critics say

"It’s even better than what came before: more exciting, with richer characters and a stronger final-act twist.... This is a murder-mystery, and a damn good one, the town of Echo Ridge steeped in an irresistible menace, the questions at the heart of the novel turning darker and deeper with each new revelation. That’s what should rightly make this another smash best-seller." (EW)

"Tightly knit and well-placed plot elements, along with the development of Ellery and Malcolm’s relationship, keep pages turning until the revelation of the murderer’s identity and motivations, as well as some other secrets that turn out satisfyingly well." (Bulletin)

"The mystery unfurls at a deliciously escalating pace, filled with believable red herrings and shocking twists. Readers will furiously turn pages until the satisfying end...with well-earned thrills and spooky atmosphere worth sinking into." (Kirkus Reviews, starred review)

Wow

The book was honestly amazing! The amount of plot twists make this book very interesting. I have a concussion and as someone who loves to read this was a great change I also read the book one of us is lying and it was amazing too I highly recommend both 😊

Kept Me Guessing

I liked that it was so suspenseful. It had a perfect ending to encompass the story. I wasn't totally drawn in by the voice of Malcolm, but overall it was still good narration.

it was good.

I love her book series but this one was a tad slow. at a few points I was wondering if I missed something and there was a new character introduced without me paying attention.

I enjoyed it just fine

I enjoy true crime books with a good mysterious twist. This was almost that. I found I wasn’t itching to get back to it in the beginning and it took me awhile to figure out who was who. Once it was about half way through I started to enjoy it more. The twist at the end was satisfying.

slow start but it does get you.

This is one of those books you have to keep going with, it takes time to start but then you are hooked.

fantastic

I love crime, woman sleuth, & domestic thriller stuff, especially when there is good character and plot development, and this novel met everything I wanted. Definitely recommend!!!

Disappointing

I had such high expectations for this book considering how much I loved "One of us is lying" and "One of us is next", coupled with the glowing reviews. The first half of this book was a complete bore. With each chapter, I was praying "is this the one where something finally happens?". If I weren't listening to it on audio book on a 12 hour drive home, I would have closed the book, never to touch it again. Once something finally did happen, I was so excited... after chapter 16 I was all in... until about chapter 25. It literally dragged on and on until the end where you finally get the answers and the final plot twist which was such a huge disappointment for me. You might as well have just told me who it was from the beginning because that's about how much I didnt like it. I would have really liked the details about Sarah instead of the lame ending we got. I wouldn't waste your time with this one, but I highly recommend the other two books I mentioned. It's almost as if two different people wrote them.
