  • Résumé

  • Progress is a constant state of learning and unlearning.

Writer, curator and producer Liv Little questions our modern understanding of big subjects – consent, race, transness, disability and body image – by learning more about their past.

Unlearn addresses a series of uniquely modern dilemmas: how did we get to the point where couples verify consent to have sex with each other via an app? How has our language about trans issues become so problematic and challenging? Is it possible for us to unpick the toxic understanding we have of our own body image?

Liv talks to contributors from across generational lines about what they've learnt and unlearnt during their lifetime in relation to these subjects. Has the progress that was made by each generation been positive? Or has it set us up for a more complicated present and future? And if progress is a constant state of unlearning the knowledge that's passed on from generation to generation, what comes next?

    Jun 20 2019

Trans visibility has recently been brought to the forefront of discussions around gender. This gave me hope

My coles notes of things I learned from this podcast

People have a hard time loving and accepting themselves. This makes it more difficult for them to accept let alone love people they see as other.  However I am hopeful for the day that we love and accept all for who, what and how they choose to be themselves for themselves.

Black, Hispanic, Asian and Indigenous to name are few are all people and deserve to be loved and accepted. However melinated you skin is you deserve equality in every form.

Gay, lesbian, bi and trans, however you choose to identify your sex, gender or non-gender you deserve equality in every form.

People with disabilities and all body types deserve equality in every form.

I am working to learn and unlearn. I believe there will be a day where people can be their authentic selves without fear of persecution or judgment.

Not sure.

Touched a few good points, but at the same time, seemed to be doing what she was accusing the media of doing by pushing her agenda, is what it seemed like. not everything is in black and white. and not everyone has to agree with you.
