About this listen

In this #1 national bestseller, a journalist who's been attacked by Antifa writes a deeply researched and reported account of the group's history and tactics.

When Andy Ngo was attacked in the streets by Antifa in the summer of 2019, most people assumed it was an isolated incident. But those who'd been following Ngo's reporting in outlets like the New York Post and Quillette knew that the attack was only the latest in a long line of crimes perpetrated by Antifa.

In Unmasked, Andy Ngo tells the story of this violent extremist movement from the very beginning. He includes interviews with former followers of the group, people who've been attacked by them, and incorporates stories from his own life. This book contains a trove of documents obtained by the author, published for the first time ever.

For anyone who has convinced themselves that Antifa is merely an idea and not an organized group, this book should disabuse them of that erroneous stance.

A well balanced, thoroughly investigated and fascinating book.

An important book

I thought I had some familiarity with the author from various media sources, even some of the so-called conservative sources. I also thought I had a handle on what these Antifa people were all about, and figured this book would be a good read to flesh out some of the details and specifics. This book ripped open that shallow preconception and showed me just how deep the rabbit hole actually goes. I was absolutely blindsided by the description, and supporting evidence, of the underlying motives and methods of operation of this group. It's hard to separate the act of reviewing this book from the strong revulsion to the depravity and danger posed by Antifa and their symbiotic friends at BLM, but I would absolutely recommend this book to anyone who thinks of Antifa as a benign and maybe helpful group of protestors as the main media, as of 2020/2021, seems to portray them. Andy Ngo has, at great personal expense and danger, laid out a comprehensive and well-researched history of Antifa in this book, and IMHO the world is a better place for this expose.

The most eye-opening book I've read in years

Thorough and informative. How is antifa as an ideology and organization not at the forefront of every American, Canadian and European mind. The danger to democracy and threat of extremist action and violence is very concerning.

Must read!

Obviously Ngo has made a name for himself by honing in on the phenomenon of the network of militant nu-communist groups we recognize as Antifa - and he's dug into it pretty deep. This man has gone undercover, been attacked and stalked repeatedly, recorded and observed dozens of events and riots, and for all intents and purposes has been in the thick of it ever since the early days. He'll get smeared and lied about, to be sure, and there's no doubt that he's not exactly sympathetic to the group (they put him in the hospital and routinely threaten his life and that of his family, after all) - but that appears to have motivated him to pursue the story that much harder.

People will call him a right wing hack and probably assume this is a right wing book - in fact my only criticism is that Andy Ngo isn't right wing enough haha. The guy's got pretty vanilla and middle of the road takes on most things, and this book is almost entirely objective accounts based on evidence and testimony. I don't think I heard him speculating even once throughout. He even goes as far as to draw equivalencies between "far right extremism" and the "far left extremism" of antifa - which I tend to think is a bit absurd given the massive imbalance that exists between the two. Far right militant groups are barely a thing in the US - but militant communists have become a significant force for political terrorism that we've all seen wreak havoc on dozens of cities and towns throughout the last few years.

But the point is - Ngo knows what he's talking about. His authority on this topic is unassailable. Even if you gauge credibility in leftist terms, IE "lived experiences" and victim status; Andy Ngo's been victimized constantly by this group and has been intinately engaged with them for some time. Yet every time they take a swing at him he bounces back and continues to be a thorn in their side, relaying their crimes and their ideology to the world. It's admirable, in my view.

Frankly I'm astonished this man hasn't fled to a concealed carry state and doesn't walk around strapped 24/7, given the numerous very serious in-person threats he's showered with and the violence that's already been committed against him. But he stays level headed and somehow still fair in his reporting on the group.

This is a must read book if you want to get a sense for what's happening politically in America today. It's not "big picture" stuff, but rather it's zooming in on the details and the events that don't make it to the MSM. Andy Ngo let's the reader draw their own conclusions about what he's showing us - and I appreciate that.
