Publisher's Summary

New York Times Best Seller

A captivating exploration of deep time and humanity's search for purpose from the world-renowned physicist and best-selling author of The Elegant Universe

"Few humans share Greene’s mastery of both the latest cosmological science and English prose." (The New York Times)

Until the End of Time is Brian Greene's breathtaking new exploration of the cosmos and our quest to find meaning in the face of this vast expanse. Greene takes us on a journey from the big bang to the end of time, exploring how lasting structures formed, how life and mind emerged, and how we grapple with our existence through narrative, myth, religion, creative expression, science, the quest for truth, and a deep longing for the eternal. From particles to planets, consciousness to creativity, matter to meaning - Brian Greene allows us all to grasp and appreciate our fleeting but utterly exquisite moment in the cosmos.

What the critics say

"Until the End of Time is encyclopedic in its ambition and its erudition, often heartbreaking.... A love letter to the ephemeral cosmic moment when everything is possible." (Dennis Overbye, The New York Times Book Review)

"Ambitious and utterly readable...[Greene] weaves personal stories, scientific ideas, concepts and facts into a delightful tapestry.... What is remarkable about Mr. Greene’s book is how he has delved into deep questions that not only have no simple answers but may never be settled at all." (Priyamvada Natarajan, The Wall Street Journal)

"There’s tremendous joy in witnessing a brilliant and curious mind wrestle with such profound issues. [Greene] takes readers on a remarkable journey." (John Keogh, Booklist)

Not for novices

I remember watching Brian Greene in some PBS programmes and I was impressed by how easily he explained very complex topics. With this audiobook, however, I found some of his explanations a bit difficult to follow (I tried hard to understand how repulsive gravity works). Since I don't study astrophysics, maybe for this type of subjects is better to have an actual book so that you can go back more easily to re-read difficult sections of the book. Other parts of the book were surprisingly interesting, such as the explanation about why we like art. Finally, I was taken aback with all the emphasis on death from start to finish; some parts of the audiobook seem like the musings of someone exiting middle age and entering old age. Overall, however, this was a good listen. Greene is a fine narrator.

Really(!) appreciated he narrated it himself.
Would love to discuss writing AI, believe its possible, and would love his opinion.

A masterful class in synthesis, clarity and, yes, poetry

Outside of the grandeur of the overarching story, which needs to be said, is brilliantly exposed, the incursions into each realm of knowledge provided me with a myriad of serendipitous moments, where things I knew become things I KNOW.

Amazing perspective on life from someone who understands the science behind the world as we understand it

Eye opening book

It’s amazing to listen to the points Brian Greene is attempting to get across. There’s some interesting stories, laws and points that are mentioned all which is worth listening to. Great book, would highly recommend.

Will Listen to this Until the End of Time!

Thoroughly enjoyable. Brian Greene present the key concepts of science in a very clear, understandable way (for us regular folk!), and share his personal thoughts and opinions on what we still have to learn. The listener is encourage to understand it all in the context of their own existence and life experiences. Incredibly thought-provoking and fun. I look forward to a lifetime of listening to this!

Absolutely fantastic! Fascinating walk from the start of the universe to the very end

I loved this book. Professor Greene has the rare ability to explain super-complex topics in layperson terms. I walked away understanding the implications of many physics theories (including quantum mechanics) to the origin of life, the universe, and even the end of it all. I also understood the multi-verse much better from a scientific perspective rather than a ‘Hollywood’ perspective. Professor Greene explained and then tied so many concepts together and then gave them practical meaning, depth and relevance.

I listened to the entire book on Audible and I was afraid that given the topic that medium may not be the best, but far from it - Professor Greene does a tremendous job of narrating it. There are no formulas, equations, or diagrams to go through.

I cannot recommend this highly enough…one of the best physics books I have read/listened to bar none! PERIOD!!!

Too sciency for me

I’m up for needing out with the best of them, but I found my mind wandering frequently. The science was just too much and didn’t sustain my general curiosity. That said, I’m not a physics student and may not be the exact target audience, but I just couldn’t get into it. Very well written though, and well read.
