Publisher's Summary

I'M LOST. I'M SCARED. AND THERE'S SOMETHING HORRIBLE IN HERE.

My name is Gary Rendell. I'm an astronaut. When they asked me as a kid what I wanted to be when I grew up, I said, "astronaut, please!" I dreamed astronaut, I worked astronaut, I studied astronaut. I got lucky; when a probe exploring the Oort Cloud found a strange alien rock and an international team of scientists was put together to go and look at it, I made the draw.

I got even luckier. When disaster hit and our team was split up, scattered through the endless cold tunnels, I somehow survived.

Now I'm lost, and alone, and scared, and there's something horrible in here.

Lucky me.

Lucky, lucky, lucky.

Think Leslie from Ted lasso is in a crypt in space…

…and that is exactly what this is. It’s funny, witty, cute, thoughtful, everything. Really fun listen!

brilliant!

That was a near perfect sci-fi experience. Witty, thought-provoking, surprising... brilliant. I look forward to much more from Mr Tchaikovsky.

The game is worth the candle, stay up late and chill

I started this a couple of times and lost interest but the reviews brought me back. The story is space opera in the best possible sense. It begins with boy dreams of space, his dream is realized and he begins to realize the truth behind be careful what you wish for. His survival against incredible , surreal , challenges is a triumph. Our hero continues , his mind becoming numb while the music becomes ever stranger.
So yeah I liked it and hope you do. His storey is complete, no loose ends and in very little time.

Great conceptual Sci-Fi

A great conceptual short story. The recollection/present back and forth works really well, and even better upon reflection knowing the twists and turns.

Great Reimagining of the Old English Poem

Can’t believe I didn’t figure out Gary’s name until after the gobbling. My new favourite writer.

Fantastic short story

The description for this little short undersells it. Brilliantly written and narrated. This guy is quickly becoming one of my favourite sci-fi authors.
