Story
After years of military service, Evan Miller wants a quiet life. The small town of Ravenswood seems perfect - until he stumbles upon a vicious web of lies with his new neighbor at its center. Ruth Kabbah is rude, awkward, and - according to everyone in town - bad news. Thing is, no one will tell Evan why. Does she perform ritual sacrifices? Howl at the moon? Pour the milk before the tea? He has no clue. But he desperately wants to find out. The more Evan’s isolated, eccentric neighbor pushes him away, the more he wants her.

Read the ebook and was excited to read the audio!
I'm not sure reading the audio truly changed my mind about anything that I read from the first time. I think a part of me was a tad bothered by the fact that the narrator spoke with an Indian accent when it came to Rahul. I thought he was English of S.Asian descent? I imagined him talking with an English accent because, well, the author states most of her characters are English like herself regardless of what their ethnicity is.
The book is very lust driven. Almost kind of fluffy since without the sex and Jasmine's self-sabotaging outlook on things, I'm not sure there would be a plot. I still enjoyed it though. I love a book with good, smutty love scenes.

Both books are awesome!
I thought the narrator was more suited to narrate Harry Potter at first but, turns out he brought just the right amount of levity to the mix! Both books are good reads and highly recommended! I wish more romance books were more inclusive instead of having to search and stumble upon books that includes different races and cultures. It's the 21st century people! Let's get with it!!

hate the narrator
i couldn't get into the book because the narrator was awful. i cant understand why they would have chosen a white male to read a story about a black female. if it was solely because he is british then they missed the mark. i didnt make it past chapter 3.

talia’s best outside of brown sisters
super sexy, cute, and intriguing. i enjoyed getting to know these characters. their stories were believable, if not very sad, but truly just friends taking care of one another in the best ways they know how. maybe they fall short (don’t we all?), but it was sweet to see them working.
my biggest beef is the narrator. it’s just weird to hear a white dude speaking for black/brown characters. also, i don’t love the idea of the accent. gives me the heebs.
altogether, an enjoyable listen as long as you are listening to the story and not the voice.

Good Read
Ms. Hibbert never disappoints. This audible is another excellent storyline with multicultural characters, real meaty backstories, poignant hangups, hopeful character development, misplaced parental burdens, and great sex. I loved every minute of it. The narrator was good, though a tad overzealous at times, in a cute way, I suppose. When he became so, I noticed him and not the protagonists, and that was not great, but not too distracting, in my opinion.

Timely love story
In this time where we all seem to be adjusting or finding ourselves this story was very reflective. A refreshing change from some other formulas that we see too often. Jasmine and Rahul are truly meant for each other and although it takes awhile for them to get there they do find their happily ever after. Story touches on the need for counseling after messed up things that can happen early in life. Good read.
