Publisher's Summary

Tolstoy's finest literary achievement.

The novel chronicles the history of the French invasion of Russia and the impact of the Napoleonic era on Tsarist society through the stories of five Russian aristocratic families. The Encyclopædia Britannica states: "It can be argued that no single English novel attains the universality of the Russian writer Leo Tolstoy's War and Peace".

Try a Different Version

I am not sure why the narrator chose to read the book the way he did, but it's difficult to bear. It almost sounds like an automated voice, and he paused in odd places for almost every sentence, which made it very difficult to enjoy.
Don't judge the book by this narrator, I started off with a different version, so I know the story itself can be entertaining. I'll renew my membership just so I can switch back to that version.

Boring reader

The text is good, the performance is not engaging. I switched halfway through to a different reader and it is much better
